It is disheartening & painful, but I believe it will. The Body of Christ has survived 2K years of persecution, trials, scandals of all sorts, etc. Israel suffered through many trials as well, & it still lives. Jesus Christ suffered & died & rose again. The gates of Hell will not overcome her.

Do you think despite the struggles and tribulations, the remnant will continue to remain large though proportionally small. Like Catholicism and her human institutions will be quite small, if not tiny but there will still be plenty of members (hopefully to make communities or even families for those in need of them)? Or will Catholics of tomorrow be lonely and scattered?

Pope Benedict [and other Popes before him] warned that the church would get smaller. Those who are lukewarm would fall from the tree like leaves in the fall, and we would be left with a devout and vivacious church in the end.

I feel like those who leave were mostly those who were looking for an excuse to do so anyway. I am sure that doesn’t cover everyone, but the detail that BXVI in his explanation was pretty comprehensive. I suggest anyone interested should look all of this up.

Those who remain will have strong faith to weather the storms. The Catholic Church saved my life, corporal and eternal. The Catholic Church is God’s Church. Satan does not bother as much with things that are not a direct threat. The lord of lies attacks and hates the truth. He hates what is good and holy. The CC is run by sinners for sinners, most of which strive to be holy, but not all.

The treasonous smoke of Satan has infiltrated the Church, and people seem surprised. The smoke of Satan is everywhere, not just in the church. Moving to a diluted branch Christianity wont help anyone. The CC IS Christ. The sacraments cannot be polluted. Not really. It is either the real presence, or it is unsanctified bread and grape juice. Once a priest, the indelible mark cannot be removed. When he celebrates a Mass, Christ is there. The only place one can find a Mass is at a Catholic Church.

It’s sad because it seems as if entire nations and peoples (I’m looking at Belgium and the Netherlands particularly) have left.

The “small remnant” referred to in Isaiah (and others) has always been a warning to Israel and the Jewish people:

When Joseph was unfairly treated by his brothers and sold into slavery, he later became second in power next to Pharaoh and said “God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors” (Gen 45:7).

Also, “When Joshua and the sons of Israel had finished striking (an enemy nation) with a great blow until they were wiped out, and when the remnant that remained of them had entered into the fortified cities” (Joshua 10:20) this was not good. Joshua told the nation of Israel “Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you and make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground that the Lord your God has given you” (Joshua 23:11-13) so here, a remnant of a foreign nation left in the land would come back to haunt them and in fact, it did.

Sometimes God in His discipline of His people sent enemies against them in the hopes that they’d repent and turn back to Him. If they didn’t, He allowed them to be taken captive and a vast majority of them were killed and only a remnant would remain in the land, but God always leaves at least a remnant as with “the surviving remnant of the house of Judah [which] shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward” (2nd Kings 19:30) “For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord will do this” (2nd Kings 19:31).

From this discipline of the Lord Ezra says, “And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, seeing that you, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a remnant as this” (Ezra 9:13) so God always leaves for Himself a remnant so that the nation of Israel will never disappear from the face of the earth. This ensures that “A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God” (Isaiah 10:21) “For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return” (Isaiah 10:22).

Someday, “there will be a highway from Assyria for the remnant that remains of his people, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt” (Isaiah 11:16). Once again, “the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward” (Isaiah 37:31).

Please post again and share your review once you’ve received it. I’d love to hear your thoughts! 👍

I believe Didache is pronounced “DID - a - kay “; at least that’s how I’ve heard it said by apologists. 😊

Hello,
I have been giving thought to the meaning and use of the term “Non Denominational” and it seems very flawed. Jesus established One Holy Catholic (Universal) Apostolic church. He never intended for there to be divisions in what He established. Denominations, as in denominators in a fraction, are pieces of the whole and those pieces were cut out by men for reasons that amount to misunderstanding of what they were walking away from. The church Christ (GOD) established will never become obsolete no matter how many walk away from it. It is very important for the whole to remain intact as it becomes stronger. There is great opposition to the church Jesus established and the enemy will use any tactic to weaken it, even attacking the faithful and maybe turning them against each other. Check out The Battle of Lepanto and that may help. Please, stay with the church.
Enjoy your days and peace be with you

Ok, I can see how that looks right. I’d always pronounced it DID-ach.

How could you consider leaving the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ that is only present in the Holy Catholic Church through Apostolic succession?

The Eastern Orthodox also have valid sacraments, to be fair

I ordered the Didache Study Bible From Amazon. It was kind of pricey, almost $60. I hope I like it and it’s worth the price.
I hope that the translation is understandable. Is it easy to understand? Is it written in modern English?
It’s described as “the most beautiful English translation.” I think it will arrive tomorrow.

Also, I’m probably going to a craft store tomorrow or sometime this week to make another bracelet.

I’ve been wearing a silver necklace with a fairly new Crucifix, plus a Miraculous Medal, St. Jude Medal and St. Dymphna medal on it.

There are so many medals on it that you really can’t see my Crucifix, so I removed the St. Jude and St. Dymphna medals tonight and I’ve been planning on making a bracelet with clear Aurora Borealis and dark green Aurora Borealis (my mother’s May’s birthstone) or possibly my sapphire AB colored birthstone with my moms AB birthstone, then add the St. Jude and St. Dymphna medals, plus a tiny cross.

I really don’t know how to make jewelry but this craft store helps their customers with it; actually I’ll string the beads and they will do pretty much the rest.

I already received my new Bible but I just unwrapped it a few hours ago and haven’t had the time to check it out much. The print is a decent size, not large print but not tiny, either. It’s pretty, fits in my newest Bible case and I’ve already had it blessed.

I’ll post more about it when I skim through it.

Are you and other posters certain the Catholic Church is going to survive this latest (and I read that here’s going to be another scandal coming out of somewhere…California maybe?) priest scandal?
100% certain.

I’ve mentioned on another thread or two that there might be an option of appealing to non-practicing Catholic parishioners with a chasmatic priest/deacon and some loud music and drums. It could be conducted with the readings and consecration, and could represent an additional mass, allowing the existing masses to continue unchanged for parishioners who prefer the 8-track

This would offer the opportunity to bring Catholics who are far from God to be reminded on His promise to be raised to life in Christ.

those kind of churches attract a congregation through a “cult of personality” (like a charismatic speaker, or infusing pop culture in their services, or a band playing popular music, or a compelling social media presence, etc) than anything related to faith and certainly not the real presence of Christ at Mass. They tend to focus on being “cool” and “hip” and not on morality and what faith tells us between right and wrong.
Why not offer Catholics the best of both??! An engaging mass with a charismatic Deacon, infusing pop culture in the mass or have a band playing popular music?

Did you get a Didache NABRE or a Didache RSV-2CE?

There are two Didache Bibles which use different Bible translations but the same Didache apparatus.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

That’s my Didache NABRE.

The Didache NABRE is brownish and says NAB on the cover.

The Didache RSV-2CE is green and says “Ignatius Bible Edition” (which is another name for the RSV-2CE translation).
