"Catholics for Choice"?

From what I’ve read, George Soros put up the money to found CFC. I have a few friends who are members, or who at least are members in the sense that they liked them on Facebook. I’ve argued with them about it and now some of them are ex-friends. One told me he was so happy to find a priest who agreed the group. I told him he needed to look for better priests.

The biggest problem I’ve encountered with CFC is that it makes moderately pro-life Catholics feel uneasy about their (lack of a) stance and more likely to tell genuine Catholics that they should be more accepting of these fraudulent Catholic’s pro-death stance.

To be clear, you can incur excommunication, but you’re still Catholic, according to the Church. Simply put, there is no way to “de-Catholicize” yourself.

As individuals, they are Catholics and you are right, nothing can change that. But **the organization **is not.

Made me smile … but not quite a comparable analogy.

“Choice” as presented is code for “pro-abortion” - and not equally anti-abortion … which of course is also a choice.

The Church does not deny choice (free will), but informs us that some choices are evil and could rob one of the eternal life of joy in the presence of God Our Lord prefers us to have.

Abortion is one of those choices. And the most highly socially championed of all the mortal sins. With the possible exception of justifying homosexual relations.

Catholics FOR such Choices are in rebellion. They may be Catholics *per their baptism, * but seem to have opted for the choice of being weeds in the field instead of the bearing good fruit of being life givers versus the destructive deception of casually destroying something (some ONES actually!) of such inestimable and eternal value that justifying the “choices” of shredding the Mona Lisa or burning all the mathematics books in the world wouldn’t rival the asinine ruination such a “choice” brings.

In one sense then “Catholics” can go to hell (per their unrepented of mortal sins); yet if by a bad free choice such a one jumps off the ark of salvation into the sea of mortal sin … it might be asked " … are they still Catholics?" Yes per their baptisms – No per the broken covenant. Mortal sin divorces us from the body of Christ. And encouraging others to join in a mortal sin under a false witness using the term Catholic to help destroy what God is creating - whoa - that’s got to be the fast track to perdition. :bigyikes: YOY … and double YOY!

USSCB has said Catholics For Choice ‘is an arm of the abortion lobby.’ Bishops in 1993 said ‘Catholics’ For Choice is not an ‘authentic’ Catholic organisation and said it had 'rejected unity with the church on important issues of long-standing and unchanging church teaching’

Not sure where I originally sourced this, but Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz legislated automatic interdict from April 15 1996 against Catholics in his diocese who were members of Catholics For Choice (and 11 other organisations were included). He said, that membership ‘is always perilous to the Catholic Faith and most often is totally incompatible with the Catholic Faith.’ Any Catholic who remained a member for month was automatically excommunicated

Helen M Alvaré, associate professor of law at Catholic University of America, has said CFC has ‘no grass roots base among Catholics’

Interesting. I knew there used to be a way to formally withdraw from the Catholic Church, but I guess that has changed, according to the good ol’ wikipedia:

I understand the idea that baptism makes an indelible mark on our soul. But it still seems there should be a way to describe the situation of people who, with full force of their will, no longer accept or wish to be part of Catholicism.

Also, I am thinking, I have read about people who explicitly claim that they no longer believe in church doctrines, but are staying in the church precisely to agitate for change, believing they are “bringing the church up to speed”.

So I guess it comes down to discerning whether or not people act in accordance with Catholic beliefs if they claim they are Catholic.

C’mon. It’s funded by those with an explicit ANTI-Catholic agenda. . . it is meant to deceive our fellow Catholics, and in reality, it has a handful of genuine members.

It’s purpose in life is to supply newspapers with propaganda, and to unnerve the ignorant about church teachings.

It’s a sham organization and the people associated with it should be ashamed of their involvement. It’s a tool of the devil.

Not to go too much off topic, but you are right, there used to be a process to formally defect from the Church. It didn’t mean that a person wasn’t Catholic, only that he/she was no longer bound by some of the canonical obligations of Catholics - specifically the obligation to marry in the Church.

Correct. Excommunication is a medicinal penalty, intended to bring the sinner to repentance. They are not “kicked out” of the Church, and are even expected to continue to attend Mass… But they are deprived of their rights to receive the Sacraments (the Eucharist, Confession, etc. The only ex-Catholic is one who freely chooses to renounce his/her faith.

There are a long list of sinners who were excommunicated (King John of England, President Juan Peron of Argentina, Father Leonard Feeney) who eventually reconciled with the Church and had their excommunications lifted.

Let’s pray the same happens with these (terribly) misguided souls.
