How many people are in the world? 6 Billion
How many are Christian? 1.9 Billion

Since 1900 the number of Christians in the world has quadrupled, from 555 million (32.2 percent), in 1900 to 1.9 billion in 2000 (31 percent).

Christianity is the largest religion in the world. Close to 1/3 of all the people on the planet, profess to be Christians.
Just to place this in perspective: Islam had 200 million in 1900 (12.3 percent) and 1.2 Billion (19.6 ) now. Today Hinduism 811 million, Buddhism 60 million, Sikhism 23 million, and Judaism 14 million (World christian Encyclopedia 2001).

Now, how many of these “Christians” do you think are Roman Catholic?

The Roman Catholic church is the largest body of Christians on earth. More than one out of every six people on the planet is Roman Catholic.
TODAY THERE ARE 480 MILLION PROTESTANTS
 
However, of the 1,131,464 Catholics in our diocese in 2006, only 218,928 [less than 20%] attended mass on the average Sunday. I find this appalling. 😦

Perhaps in your diocese, not others. And what does that have to do with Catholic in numbers?

I think you will find less than 25% of the Catholics in the U. S. attend mass regularly. To me that means that numbers who claim to be Catholic are meaningless. How many make an effort to practice their Faith?

Takes a Catholic to say something negative to what is suppose to be a positive thread here. Point being that if we are so wrong, then why are there over a Billion of us?

Whether Catholics attend Mass or not, there still are the faithful.

There are over a billion Muslims. That does not indicate their correctness.

If a Catholic does not attend Mass, they are no longer being faithful.

The Truth is not decided by the majority

Really. Then what happened to all those Catholics before there was ever a Mass?? Or a church for that matter? Surely they are not condemned to hell.

Of course not. But the celebration of the Mass in some form or another has taken place since the beginning of the Church.

Example. My sister calls herself a Catholic if asked, was Baptised, took her first Holy Communion, First Reconciliation and Confimation. However she knows nothing about the faith, is completely uninterested in it, and has not been to Mass in years (her choice and fault entirely). She has had premarital sex and is currently pregnant (out of wedlock), she does very very few things that we as Christians should do. Is this what passes for a faithful Catholic? I think not.

Arguments based on numbers will never “prove” a faith to be right or wrong, real or not real, etc.

Is the reality of a God dependent upon the number of people who worship Him? If every single Christian on the face of the planet were to die tomorrow, would that mean the Christian God no longer existed?

If Catholics had 1 billion followers and Islam 1 billion and one, would that then make Islam "right’? If two people converted to Catholicism, would it then be “right” until it was outnumbered again? Who keeps score?

Christianity, let alone the Catholic Church as it is understood today, did not begin in the billions. It was outnumbered for centuries by many other religions. At what precise point in history did it amass enough followers to become “real”, “true” or “right”? Or was it right from the beginning, even when it was outnumbered?

Numbers will never prove anything in terms of faith and religion.🤷

I’m curious. Is that ALL people who were baptized Catholic or adult, professing Catholics? I know many people who were baptized Catholic and became protestant or just nothing at all. If someone were baptized Catholic and became a professing atheist, are they still considered Catholic because they were baptized? If this is just going by number of baptisms ONLY, a lot of those people aren’t really Catholic at all.

On the contrary their is a Science of Group Consensus, and it has been found that when a group arrives at a Consensus or majority opinion it’s found to be accurate or correct[.

Looks like Islam is moving pretty fast.

Could it be that we Christians are contracepting ourselves into oblivion and will have Islam forced upon our Christian decendants in the future?

Sorry, numbers don’t lie. You can question and come up with whatever you like if it makes you feel better about your religion. If I weren’t Catholic, and I knew that Catholicism is the LARGEST RELIGION IN THE WORLD, only FOLLOWED by Muslim, which still keeps us ahead, I’d want to research it and know why. Perhaps if others “researched their history”, they too would know the truth.
