Sorry, numbers don’t lie. You can question and come up with whatever you like if it makes you feel better about your religion. If I weren’t Catholic, and I knew that Catholicism is the LARGEST RELIGION IN THE WORLD, only FOLLOWED by Muslim, which still keeps us ahead, I’d want to research it and know why. Perhaps if others “researched their history”, they too would know the truth.
What about people in 50 AD? When various forms of pagan thought were the religion of the world? Should they have just not bothered looking into the newly formed Christianity and just gone with the majority Hellenic Paganism?

I think what Benedict is trying to say is if other religions researched history to find out about the Catholic church, they would convert.
But only if they took the time and effort like Scott Hahn and Guy Doud.

On the contrary their is a Science of Group Consensus, and it has been found that when a group arrives at a Consensus or majority opinion it’s found to be accurate or correct[.

I’m afraid that the link only gives the title of the article, not a link to the actual study. Do you have something that goes to the actual study so that one could see what is being discussed?

Oh, numbers can lie quite well in the correct hands 😉 . Ever heard the line about “lies, damn lies and statistics”? Many religions have, at various times, been the “largest religion in the world”.

One can certainly research Catholic and Christian history in depth without being compelled to consider it to be an accurate description of spiritual reality. I am a case in point.

As to “coming up with whatever you like if it makes you feel better about your religion”, I have to admit that I have really never looked at a “mine is bigger than yours” contest as an adequate basis or requirement for determining the validity of a religion or existence of a deity. However, if you prefer to base your choice of religion on a popularity contest, I suppose that is up to you.🤷

Looks like Islam is moving pretty fast.

Could it be that we Christians are contracepting ourselves into oblivion and will have Islam forced upon our Christian decendants in the future?
As early as 2020, Islam will overtake Christianity…oh my, that’s within my lifetime (I pray I am still alive)! 😉

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:cool:

Can you trust those numbers though?

I know a few people who profess to be catholic when asked but go to protestant churches and disagree with many catholic beliefs. They believe that they are catholic because they were baptized in the catholic church and their family history is catholic… Now, can you really trust those numbers?

Exactly, Cradle and Cultural Catholics don’t count (unless of course they Catholics stayed with the Church, I’m Cradle, Cultural and Spiritual Catholic 😃 ).

God Bless

How many people are in the world? 6 Billion
How many are Christian? 1.9 Billion

Since 1900 the number of Christians in the world has quadrupled, from 555 million (32.2 percent), in 1900 to 1.9 billion in 2000 (31 percent).

Christianity is the largest religion in the world. Close to 1/3 of all the people on the planet, profess to be Christians.
Just to place this in perspective: Islam had 200 million in 1900 (12.3 percent) and 1.2 Billion (19.6 ) now. Today Hinduism 811 million, Buddhism 60 million, Sikhism 23 million, and Judaism 14 million (World christian Encyclopedia 2001).

Now, how many of these “Christians” do you think are Roman Catholic?
1 BILLION 30 MILLION.
The Roman Catholic church is the largest body of Christians on earth. More than one out of every six people on the planet is Roman Catholic.
TODAY THERE ARE 480 MILLION PROTESTANTS
Dear B16,

If you add 1 bio 30 mio Catholics plus 480 mio Protestants, it was not added up to 1.9 bio Christian?

How about the 1.4 billion Chinese?

Swariffin, you are forgetting about the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Christians, I’m sure they bring the numbers up to 1.9 Billion.

Takes a Catholic to say something negative to what is suppose to be a positive thread here. Point being that if we are so wrong, then why are there over a Billion of us?

Whether Catholics attend Mass or not, there still are the faithful.
Jesus did say that narrow was the way to heaven but wide was the gate to destruction. sounds like the “majority” will be headed down the wrong path…

lol

(just joking around. i don’t think catholics are on the road to hell by any means)

How about the thousands of CATHOLIC Chinese? Or the thousands of CATHOLIC Iraq’s? Or the thousands of CATHOLIC Vietnamese?? What’s your point?

Dear Righteousone,

My real point is, no good to include statistics in our discussion of faith. Perhaps it was Hamba2han (if memory serves) that make a small propaganda about the spread of Islam by using statistical numbers of followers. Of course, I believe that the Catholics are the largest single organized religion on earth. But, the numbers do not mean that God will be scared to see so many of us, and open the door of heaven for us.

Thanks for the correction, my apology. The Mormon and JW would like to be in the number too. They claim they are Christians too, right?

And slightly fewer than two thousand years ago, your vaunted numbers totaled thirteen. Given that Christianity was vastly outnumbered at that point, was it just a pack of lies until it came into the majority?

I am talking about Catholics…oh I give up.
Me a swariffin were talking about 1.9 Billion Christians, he commented that the numbers for Protestants and Catholics you stated don’t add up to 1.9 billion. I reminded him of the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox, and he said that the JW and LDS would probably be counted as Christian for the purpose of statistic gathering.

God Bless
