Does anyone (especially our European members) know anything about the state of the Christian religion in Scotland - not necessarily just Catholic? I know of some US missionary groups who go there occasionally. Just kind of strikes me kinda “odd”.

I do know that there are faithful Catholics on the Isle of Skye just off the coast of Scotland; some on-line friends are members of this small parish:

There is also a small Secular Discalced Carmelite Community on Skye.
 
Sacred Heart in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow, and St Andrew’s in the Ravelston area of Edinburgh, each offer the Latin Mass every Sunday.
 
Hi everyone

Can i just enquire to what you find ‘Odd’?

I was brought up Protestant, but never attended church regulary and i have always been respectful to other faiths. I met my (now) husband and we were married in full catholic mass and i have completed the first rite in the RCIA and will be welcomed fully into the church at Easter Vigil Mass in 2009.

The state of christianity in Scotland is as well as you can imagine anywhere else in the world - dwindled some after Vatican II but unless people get the facts right about the religeon and belief structure - we will pretty much loose faith all over the world.

Now, i do not have a religeous upbringing - not any fault of my family, but by choice and freedom of expression. I have tried many diffrent religeons, explored them and after meeting my husband 5yrs ago - i regulary attended Mass and found my home.

My chapel is down the road from me and i would fight tooth and nail for it - i am very active in the community as they have given me so much since i moved to Glasgow from Fife a few years ago - they are my family - a true community and we have a lot of fun at mass as there is kids running about the back - a healthy noisy church - always a good sign of things to come.

Ive been reading this forum for just over a year and i honestly thought that it was a cult website at one point - in all honesty and fairness i did consult the priest about it and he let me know that some people take faith to the extreme and become very devout - and to them i say it must be a wonderul thing - but to train all your energies on one point in your life - does it get draining?

I think i may have rattled on a little there but you get the meaning of what i mean (hopefully) - Oh - got emal from Priest - the RCIA group i am in - we are getting welcomed in St Andrews Cathedral in Glasgow - woohoo!
 
well its not going great here in scotland with catholicism, and its the same for other protestant denominations. our country have passed laws allowing ‘gay unions’, that adoption agencies must not discriminate against homosexual couples, abortion is considered a human right, and even now euthanasia may become a possibility. however, the archbishop of edinburgh and saint andrew’s has been very vocal over these and many other issues and is getting himself recognised. non-believers find him an nuisance, but he is at least doing something against the moral decline in this nation.
 
There’s a magnificent Traditional monastic community on the island of Papa Stronsay, who just recently reconciled with Rome. Their prayers should keep Scotland afloat. 😃
