Catholics, Jews, and Muslims all worship the same God?

Years ago, Pope John Paul II had an inter-faith worship meeting with some members of different religions. I do not know much about this event. My mother-in-law says that this was to profess that all of these religions had the same GOD whom they worshipped.

What religions were represented ? Can you explain what happened at this event ? When it happened ( I think it was in 19860 ? And finally DO ALL OF THOSE RELIGIONS REPRESENTED AT THAT EVENT WORSHIP THE SAME GOD ?
