This Sunday we (my church St. Matthews Catholic Charlotte, NC) had a visiting Arch-Bishop. His name is Arch-Bishop Anthony Theodore Lobo.

He represents the Diocese of Islamadad-Rawaalpindi.

The main purpose of his visit was to help raise money for the poor and help fund the college there St. Mary’s.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Mary%27s_Academy%2C_Rawalpindi

During the homily (sermon), Bishop Lobo described Pakistan as a country of about 160,000,000 of which 96% are Muslim and 1% are Catholic and 3% are other. He went on to say that unlike in the West where Muslims have more opportunities in predominately “Christian” countries, Catholics in Pakistan typically are on the low end of the economic ladder.

The purpose of this thread mostly is just to inform. I would only ask that if you live in the region and you have a way you can help them I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Ted

I would like to have asked him, or if he commented on it you could relate it here; what does the average Moslem Pakistani think about America’s finacial and military support for their President/government? What do the Pakistani Catholics think about it?

I bet the Catholics are discriminated against by their Muslim neighbours. That’s probably why they belong to the lower socio-economic groups.

Ted, as a fellow-parishioner, I, too, was privileged to hear Bishop Lobo; his presence in our parish was a strong reminder of the struggles so many of our brothers and sisters have to endure as they live in obedience to Christ in the midst of a very hostile world.
