Catholics only say . . .

A zeal for Christ that shows very beautifully.
Courage to evangelize.
Good songs in service.
 
I can’t generalize because I don’t know much about protestant churches but I think:
  1. many donate more money to their church.
  2. I see some good services on TV.
  3. they memorize the Bible better than I do.
 
I can’t speak to the churches but I will speak about those who worship in them:

We’ve have some really kind, charitable and knowledgable ones here on the forums
They do and give their best
They want everyone to know about Jesus

  1. Many know how to evangelize better than most Catholics
  2. Their services are often entertaining
  3. In general, Protestants are more welcoming (on an individual level) to new faces at their services
 
Three things?
  1. Fellowship / welcoming atmosphere for newcomers. They seem to know who is coming in that is new and welcome them right away and make them feel welcome.
  2. Bible verse memorization much better than Catholics. Catholics tend to teach the children the bible stories without focusing on having them memorize them word for word and which chapter/verse. I think in discussing scripture, it would be heplful to always know exatly where you can find that passage.
  3. **Pastor has a whole week to prepare his homily **(right word?) so they are often entertaining and insightful and they have time to really study what they are going to talk about. Priests give homilies *each day *so they only have a short time to prepare.

Remember, though, it isn’t just one sermon. Most preachers preach at least three per week and they also tend to be much longer and much more in depth than a Roman Catholic priest’s homily.

Three different ones in one week? What days? What denomination? I like to hear people preach and if it didn’t interfere with my own church I might pop in to hear something inspirational.

The most I have ever heard of is two in one week and that’s only occasionally on a Wednesday but they were always shorter if he spoke at all. Usually on Wednesdays the pastors I have heard of just introduced another church member to give a small talk and then there was fellowship time or dinner and always a religious education for kids (like Kingdom Kids or something similar) and sometimes a scripture study for adults.
 
I am not one to join in on the debating threads, so I hope people refrain from making this one.

I am not going around trying to find out if someone is Catholic or Protestant, with the exception of my husband before I met him, I knew I had to find someone that had the same faith as I do.

As a Catholic, I TRY to go through my days with my heart open to everyone and look for Jesus in everyone. I TRULY believe he is there. I believe that there are many other people out there Catholic and Protestant that do the same, and of course we should all do it more.

I guess all in all, I am just JOYFUL for all of those who believe in God, and pray for those who don’t.
 
  1. Protestants really have a love for the Bible and study it frequently.
  2. Protestants have a zeal for evangelism and reaching out to the world with their love of Christ.
  3. Protestants are very active in fellowship opportunities in their churches. They have coffee hours, potluck dinners, and many other activities besides just worship, prayer and Bible study.
 
if I could think of a generalization that applies to ALL Protestants I would offer an observation but I am not in the habit of making such blanket statements about groups of people, most of whose beliefs are unfamiliar to me.

I was trying to stay out of it a bit and see where it goes, Im hoping for at least 10 pages on each thread.

If we can argue for 10 we should all be able to agree for 10, Im calling it “*Heavenly Practice *”

  1. Love of the Scripture and Bible study
  2. Evangelical zeal (I wish I had the courage to ask total strangers if they know Jesus. I just wear a crucifix or cross necklace and hope I’m “evangelizing w/o words” :o )
  3. Good preaching (most Catholic priests could learn from Protestant preachers, and I for one don’t mind a 20 minute homily, I’m in no hurry for Mass to end 😃 )
