Catholics regard Muhammad as a prophet??

It seems to me that from a Catholic-Christian perspective Mohamad would have to be considered the absolute anthesis of a prophet. His teachings are completely orthogonal to those teachings of Jesus Christ.

I see the three monothesitic religions as characterized primarily by the following traits:
  1. Judaism: The Law as given at Sinai, and the Sanctity of Life
  2. Christianity: Grace, Forgiveness, and Redemption
  3. Islam: Conquering prople holding opposing beliefs by whatever means necessary
Daniel49
yep - in a nutshell you got it.

Even more so, mohammed not only changed the message of the Bible radically by saying it is ok to kill, lie, enslave, subjugate people if they are not muslims but that even muslims are predestined to heaven or hell which means all that killing and lying and enslaving might be unnecessary! And that (predestination) isn’t even the message of the Bible in any book that I am aware of.

I am sure some Catholics might think he was a prophet because they are still ignorant of islam and due to the mixed messages coming out of the Vatican and the other clergy - but mohammed didn’t even meet the requirements to be a prophet.

We have listed all of these things before so I will just post some links to articles that covers these things if anyone hasn’t read the previous arguments.

10 Reasons why mohammed not a prophet

if you see Luke 16:16, you will see that Jesus openly declared that there are no more prophets after John the Baptist. This directly implies that Muhammad of islam was a FRAUD and not a prophet. The book of John says : 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Messiah? He is antichrist, that denieth God the Father and Jesus the Son.

I asked a muslim man about his understanding of Jesus. He said that they believe Jesus was a very highly regarded messanger of God, but he became very angry at the idea that He is the son of God. He said that most muslims believe that our God and theirs are one and the same. He also said they believe in the divine conception of Mary, that she was a virgin and the Holy Spirit visited her. I asked why they dont eat pork. He said that when Noah filled his ark with every living creature, the pigs were simply included to clean up the faecal mess of the other animals. Thats why they dont eat pork.
Well thats my 2 cents worth if its worth anything.
Thanks be to you Lord Jesus Christ.

In a recent edition in the “West Tennessee Catholic” newspaper, it had an article covering a Muslim & Christian Forum at St. Augustine Church.

There were 3 Christians and 3 Muslims. The three Christians were the pastor at St. Augustine’s, a Presbyterian Liberation Church Pastor, and a pastor at a “Church of Human Development”.

So in this article, there is the following sentence:

So I’m a little confused…

Muslims - Does the Islamic faith regard Jesus as the Messiah?

Christians - Does the Christian faith regard Muhammad as a prophet?

I’ve never been taught that I should regard Muhammad as a prophet, and I’ve been a Catholic for a year. What else do I need to know?

Of course, I realize the mix of panelists on both sides could have contributed to a bad dissemination of information.
I’m all for inter-religious dialogue. Here my two cents on it.

It is about respecting other religions, respecting the right of others to follow their own religions. (It goes without saying that no belief should threaten the well being of any human being, whether a person who belongs to the same religion or another. ) And to learn what one can from other religions to enrich one’s own.

So in a dialogue between Christians and Muslims it about Christians respecting the Muslim view that they consider Mohammad as their last prophet and Jesus as merely one of their prophets, only and not as the Son of God. Muslims do believe in the virgin birth of Jesus and yet do not accept Him as the Son of God. Muslims do not believe Jesus died as a result of crucifixion, nor that He rose from the dead. All of the aspects on which the foundation of Christianity rests. Yet Christians must allow Muslims their right to reject what Christians believe.

For Muslims it should be about respecting the fact that Mohammad is not in the New Testament of Christians and hence Christians do not accept Mohammad as a/their prophet; and Christians worship Jesus Christ as the Son of God, as the Second Person of the Trinity. That Christianity is founded on the basis of the death by crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus and belief in Him as the Son of God.

If inter-religious dialogue becomes about accepting other religious beliefs as one’s own, then dialogue becomes meaningless. Inter-religious dialogue is not about converting the other. It is merely laying out: Here is my belief. Please respect it. You are not obliged to accept it.

For instance, in an inter-religious dialogue, a Muslim cannot insist that Christians give up eating pork, nor can a Hindu insist that all Christians and Muslims should give up eating beef. To each his own. The other should accept and respect it as long as no one is hurt. How each religion treats animals is so different that no religion can prescribe rules for another, except present their case in favor of any animal, or against any practice. Jains are such strict vegetarians, who respect all living beings to a degree that it would be almost impossible to follow their care for animals and living being of all kinds. Buddhism does not fall far behind.

**S J Thaikattil , good beginning. Please continue.

You have suggested that every one respect the others beliefs. That is very good. I say:
If one cannot respect the others beliefs, at least he/she can refrain from abusing others beliefs and senior leaders. That would also be very useful.

Please add that to your good stuff. Thanks.**

The Vatican has organized inter-religious dialogue with Muslims.

I doubt if Catholics and Muslims attending it are out to insult the other.

Participating in such inter-religious dialogue definitely requires great spiritual knowledge and maturity.

We must hope that the mutual understanding and respect between the two religions grow.

What the Catholic Church seeks is religious freedom for Christians living in Muslims countries.

All Muslims enjoy religious freedom in Christian countries.

Everything begins with mutual respect, the right of every human being to seek their own way to God, no matter what they call Him.

That is the key - respect for Christianity from muslims. Algeria (among many other muslim countries) is facing a sky rocketing rate of conversion from muslims to Christianity. To stop this happening they are changing the law of the country to forbid conversion. Basically the young men love the female members of the their family and are sick of women being treated like **** - plus, they worried about their future daughters. That proves there is no mutual respect - hopefully there will be soon although I very much doubt it especially when this what they are teaching their children youtube.com/watch?v=aml9VvhRXrE.

Quoting Jacque:

“He (a muslim) said that most muslims believe that our God and theirs are one and the same.”

Does anyone here really believe that to be true? If it is true, then G-d is one heck of a confused and messed up entity.

Obvioulsy, whatever Muslims are worshipping has nothing to do with the Judeo-Christian G-d. I will go so far as to say that suggesting that what the Muslims are worshiping is the same G-d as the G-d of the Jews and the Christians is a perversion of those two true monothestic faiths.

Daniel49

Vatican’s response to muslims request for peace - basically said that the muslims are not serious about it

Muslims believe that their God is the same as ours because their God is the God of Moses, Abraham, Noah, Jesus etc. I’m only sharing what I have been told by a few muslim work-mates who are not anti- christian and who are generally good people. I get sick of people on both sides who cant stop picking the fights that leave the rest of us to fight. Most christians and muslims in my country, New Zealand, get on very well. We have a great KIWI culture here that is reasonably relaxed. We dont stick our noses into each others business and we generally dont worry about who prays to what. Its the loud mouths, who would tend to cross the road than to walk past and smile at someone different, who keep picking the top off the scab. Take the log from your own eye first.
Theres a bit more than my 2 cents worth. Get over yourselves and stop squabling. Wouldnt it be funny if our God and their God were up their, rolling around in fits of laughter at the absurd accusations of people who think they know it all.
LIGHTEN UP. Concentrate on getting your families through this recession unscathed.
God loves a trier.

You actually think that it wasn’t that way before they started their jihads against us? It is still that way with many individuals, but things took a decided change when they have worked tirelessly to have our kids ‘pray/dress like a muslim’ and they do not do the say - pray like a Christian, etc. Or their working to get mohammed and jihad into our kid’s school texts that doesn’t even come close to what they are - and instead are more like fairy tales. Or the perps killing while ‘allahu akbar’ are on their tongues or in their suicide notes - that our mainstream media doesn’t even report.

Or the compounds that there has been proven to have terrorist training on them and have now moved underground in order not to be noticed anymore:
(1). Islamberg contains massive underground bunkers that are interconnected by a network of tunnels. A building contractor, who resides in Sherman, Pennsylvania - - approximately 15 miles from Islamberg, says that he helped to install the bunkers and that the paramilitary training that formerly took place at the firing range and the obstacle courses now takes place now takes place at these subterranean locations.
While they have a campaign in our infidel areas to assure us everything is fine while it is obvious they are not telling the truth.

The DVD ‘The Third Jihad’ has more info on these compounds. There are about 30 across the USA. And Fox news had a special on them too.

% of muslims and % of violence directed against non-muslims

The Rodney Kind ‘Why don’t we aaaallll get along’ line is a nice one, but it isn’t us starting the violence. We accepted them into our country and they are the ones preaching hatred in their mosques, they are the ones who have such organizations such as the MSA in our schools with direct ties to the muslim brotherhood and when they riot/protest there are anti-semite shouting and yelling, and holding up anti-semite signs and in some cases Jews have been attacked.

Wouldnt it be funny if our God and their God were up their, rolling around in fits of laughter at the absurd accusations of people who think they know it all.
Hilarious in-fact, since I believe there is only one God.

Of course there is only one God. No need to shoot me down. Just trying to get a smile. If people are so wound up that they take pot shots at their own, then thats why people are too scared to chat on the Catholic Answers. It is a chat forum for us Catholics isnt it. Cant we express our views without being bullied by those who post 24/7. Give us a break and dont pounce on us little Catholics who pluck up the courage to say a word now and again.

Good day Jacque…

There are over 100 posts/replies to this inquiry and not sure on how many you answered but regardless of the going on and mayhem on these boards, I will ask **you **the question.

“Do **YOU **as a Catholic regard Muhammad as a prophet”???

Thanks for your time!

Hope you feel better soon. Please read the www.faithfreedom.org website in the bottom of my footer and find out the truth about islam before it is too late. Ignorance about it should stop. I had a rude awakening myself (ex boyfriend). Also there is these people: archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.com/2007/06/ex-muslim-council-of-britain.html. Maybe NZ isn’t the hot seat for radical islam yet but be prepared please! It is not muslims the problem is islam.
