I always wanted to ask a African American if they personally feel lucky that slavery happened. If it hadn’t, that person might now be in one of the worst countries to live in. But because it had, they now live in one of the best places to be.

I would probably be living in the British Isles. And there wouldn’t be 300 millions Indians in the U.S. today because with only the Indian procreation and none of the European waves of immigration (or invasion as you like to call it) there would only be a fraction of our current population here.

I understand your view but this thread addresses the Church supporting/assisting illegal immigrants. This support is nothing new - and their is no history (known to me) of the Church today informing the govt of the location of illegals. Again illegals tend to be poverty-stricken and they are here due to that poverty.

Therefore, we serve them as we serve any who are poor.

I agree. If one really believes this, then they are called to sell all they own and give it to the poor. The Lord called individuals, not governments. I admit, I’m still on my journey of living up to my responsibility.

I can and do support organizations, missions and individuals. I merely find the hypocrisy of those who want to use “communal” funds as opposed to “personal” insulting. I do not support diocesan drives or CRS, but I do support outreaches that build infrastructure, homes and businesses in Mexico, likewise, Asia, Africa, and across the US.

There wouldn’t be 300 million Indians because their life expectancy would be greatly reduced living they way they used to. A one tribe did not necessarily get along with another so their were many wars.

In 1966 it was known as the “Black verses White” civil rights battle ground. A housing agreement was reached in part to prevent an attempt of blacks to march in Cicero.

I don’t take the “La Raza” mentality lightly. It is a carbon copy of Hitler’s master race.

The neighborhoods you speak of are just small neighborhoods. Those people aren’t pouring across the border.

When my niece had to attend the public schools here, it was as though a person with a normal intelligence was stuck in a class for “gifted” children. My sister had to give her additional instructions and homework or she would have been lost once she got out of this lousy public school system. I would tell people that when you graduate 8th grade here, you’ll have the best 4th grade education money can buy.

Can anyone out there tell me why people who can speak decent English force their children to learn Spanish then dump them into a English speaking school system?

The former is not equivalent to Hitler’s twisted “master race” belief, because the idea of intermarriage naturally happening (and it does) is not an attack on white people (or any other race for that matter). It is a recognition that the number of people with mixed ancestry, which most Latin Americans actually are, is going to continue to grow.

The latter is a fringe group. Most people who come from Latin America are not interested in some greater conspiracy to turn the country into a Latin American country. They are more focused on personal survival. As with other immigrant groups, their kids will learn English and many of their grandkids won’t even speak Spanish.

I realize that makes me part of the “Mein Kampf” crowd according to Bullfighter, because I am causing the destruction of all things American!

My in-laws both came here from the Philippines. My wife and her sisters understand some Tagalog and Visayan, but they can’t speak it well at all. Our kids and nieces and nephews only speak English (and second languages they have learned or will learn - in my eldest’s case that would be Japanese).

I have friends who are second generation from Latin American countries who speak no Spanish (or about the same amount as the German I know from taking it in High School). It is normal.

I can’t say that I totally disagree with them. Do you know why the Alamo was fought? Santa Anna had freed the slaves in Mexico and the Texas land owners didn’t want to lose their “property.” Had the Battle of San Jacinta been won by Mexico, the U.S. would have been a good deal smaller, Texas would have been slave free many years earlier than it was, and George W. would never have been president (at least via Texas governorship). All really good reasons to give it back, IMHO.
