Sandy – are Methodists still using grape juice for the Lord’s Supper?

Someone to whom God has given the grace of craving the Real, substantial Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and not just the theological romance of it, must face up to the reality of the situation. As a former Anglican, I agonized over this for decades, trying to convince myself of the validity of Anglican Orders. In the end, it just wouldn’t wash. Of course, it cost me my career.
My sympathies about your career.
I would have no problem with recieving Eucharist at a Catholic Church, however they have Closed Communion and I would not be allowed to recieve it.

Same with us and the Orthodox actually - my understanding is that we’re fine and dandy from the Catholic side to receive Communion in the Orthodox churches, but from their side it usually would not be permitted.

You get points for knowing that and bonus points for understanding and respecting it!

Absolutely incorrect here LilyM.

You would never be able to recieve in an Orthodox Church.
That Priest will not give a passerby the Eucharist.
You need to get better information. Check Father Ambrose on that.
It would not happen. Even Orthodox travelling to another parish need to Call Ahead to warn the Priest so he can confirm it is an Orthodox in good standing to recieve.
Sadly, we know these types of precautions do not exist in our parishes for the most part.
Oh, and they DONT use EMHC’s. No way on that one.

Allow me to clarify, my dear Damascus.

I meant that, according to my understanding, the Catholic Church, for its part, has no problems with Catholics receiving in Orthodox churches, or Orthodox receiving in Catholic Churches, but that the Orthodox, on the other hand, shy away from permitting it. Please let me know if I misunderstand the position.

Our Catholic communion, then, is comparatively more open than theirs. Rather like Protestand communion being more open than ours.

Actually no. As Catholics we can receive in the Eastern Rite Churches that are in communion with Rome. They are mostly Churches that were Orthodox Churches but returned to full communion with Rome at some point.

We cannot receive in the Orthodox Churches due to the same lack of communion with Rome. There had been some progress made during the Pontificate of John Paul II, but there was never a formal agreement reached. We cannot receive in their churches and they cannot receive in ours. A sad situation indeed.

Once again I need to make something a bit more clear.
No Orthodox in good standing would want to recieve in a Catholic Church.
But, if they for whatever reason decided to, open up your Missal and its right in there! They are urged to respect the discipline of their own Churches.*their Churches urge them not to, so - there is the first problem
BUT-----

** the Code of Canon Law does not object to them recieving
canon 844 (squiggly mark)3

My apologies for my ignorance :o :bowdown2:
