By the way ,the article has 181,000 likes on facebook. That means more than 181,000 people that are getting the wrong impression of Catholicism.

The gentleman behind the “6 Reasons to NOT Send Your Daughter to College” article that went viral not to long ago have done a follow up of sorts called “Catholics Trapped by Feminism.”

From the article

It kind of reminds me of a DirecTV commercial. “When your daughter goes to college she gains skills, when she gains skills she feels like putting them to use, when she puts them to use she has less time for children, when she has less time for children she uses contraception. Don’t let your daughter use contraception. Get rid of college and upgrade to Housewife now.”
There was a time when most women were stay at home moms. It was enough that the father worked and they could pay the bills. But the radical feminists sought to frighten women. Their goal was to convince them to distrust all men. Don’t be a housewife - a mother. Get a career. Get power. Because, one day, that man will divorce you and kick you to the curb and leave you with the kids. Or, that the odds are that he will treat you badly. These so-called feminists did not want to help solve the problems that existed between some men and some women - they wanted a complete separation. Soon, colleges began offering courses in “women’s studies” as if men and women did not have a species relationship. Feminist icon, Gloria Steinem, said, “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” Men were called “male chauvenist pigs.”

Today, we have confusion about marriage and many people don’t know what having a real relationship or getting married means. We’re all imperfect, but we need to take that chance and learn how to relate to each other and find that person who matches you.

Stop listening to the radical feminists who have sown fear and discord.

Yeah, I am pretty offended by this website too. It is things like this that make me never want to marry a Catholic man …and it seriously makes me doubt the faith. I am almost done with this religion I think.
Why would you say that you are almost done with this religion? Please do not let people who do not speak on behalf of the Church to influence you.

Also, Catholic men do not think this way. Some Traditionalist (with a capital T, who do not recognize the validity of Vatican II and/or the Pope) might think this way, but the majority of Catholic men do not.

That said, my wife does stay home, but that’s because we figured out to make it work and my wife would rather stay home with our daughter than be at work. But I would not have made my wife stay home. Truth be told, I was nervous about losing her paycheck and want her to go back once our kids are older.

God Bless and do not leave the Church based on what people say who are not Priests or Bishops.

This link seems so off base as to be trolling. The idea of gender determinism has its basis outside reality.

So… You agree with the article, then?

Indeed what about education for education’s sake? I went to a liberal arts college. Though a political science major (I love it when multiple disciplines interact) some of my favorite college classes where in music, biology, and philosophy. Was that (expensive) education wasted because my professional career has been somewhat stunted. I work but only contract like work so far, but we need the income I bring in, when I do work.

I did not watch the videos, but I did not become a radical feminist because of college, despite some views of my mother, who wanted us girls to be able to be independent in case of a bad husband or unforeseen events (like widowhood), but expressed it in ways that easily could have been taken wrong. Nor do my husband and I use contraception, or indeed find serious reasons to avoid children very often. I have 3 children and 1 on the way. 🤷

I am very thankful for my college education, and had a lot of good wholesome fun at college. (I worked, had full 18 or more credit semesters, was in several choirs and music classes, Nordic skied on the varsity team, played volleyball on intramural teams, went maple syruping, learned to ballroom dance, and learned Taekwondo). I understand this is not always the norm, but if we teach our children what education is really for (not just getting a job) and where a persons real worth is (not their job and career) there should be no problem.

I fixed it for you. 🙂

People don’t think this way anymore. Not even the feminists do.

One of these “traditionalist” women marries at 20. Her husband does provide well for her, making sure he has plenty of life insurance and such. They have 3 children by the time she’s 25. He dies in an accident that year. She’s now 25 with 3 children, no marketable skills but she’s OK because he had life insurance? Really?

One of these “traditionalist” women stays at home with her parents while she looks for a husband. By 30, she still hasn’t found a man to marry and no clear prospects on the horizon. She’s been doing menial work that does not enable her to support herself independently, because “being Catholic” means she can’t get a degree. Now what? Does she stick it our with her parents until 35? 40? What’s the plan?

I’m not saying there aren’t downsides to other types of lifestyles, surely there are. But to say that, across the board, college is “wrong” for every woman seems about as foolish as saying that college is “right” for every man.

Of course there is nothing in Catholicism against educating women, (especially since Catholics were the first to educate women). Of course there is some very real criticisms of the current post secondary education model. One could say the only marketable skill you gain from college is the fact that you graduated college.

That site does not represent true Catholic beliefs. Plenty of Catholic men love smart women. My husband and I bond over the fact that we are both in the medical field. We are both huge science nerds. He has always said he loves my “big sexy brain”. lol 🙂

I would be curious to see how that website views St. Gianna, who is a Saint and was a mother and physician during her lifetime.

I’m really not sure what the problem is on here, because after reading one of the links, the author makes arguments and counterarguments.

Sure people do. There are still some very scary radical feminists out there. However, I think the definition of “feminist” has changed with the generations - someone who is 20 has a very different view of the term than someone who is 40 or 60.

It is a mistake to assume that college always makes people “smart”. There are plenty of people who didn’t go to college who are smart.

I never said college is a definite guarantee of intelligence. I also know plenty of people that are smart and never went to college. What I was saying in my post is that there are many Catholic men that are attracted to the women who share the college-educated background they also have, unlike the author of the article we are all discussing who thinks college ruins women.

I personally found that nauseating; tbh I was waiting for them to claim that the goal of women should be to be pregnant in the kitchen.

Personally I intend to go to university, not get married and devote my time instead to charity work.
Don’t forget, barefoot too so they can’t leave the house easily

I hope your view of Catholic men and the Catholic faith hasn’t been founded on the philosophy of this or that website all this time. A faith founded on Jesus Christ is unshaking. :o

Radical feminists exist, but they’re not at the forefront of the movement anymore. It’s constantly changing, so judging the current movement by what people said in the 70’s is a mistake.

Personally, most of the feminists I’ve seen hold self-proclaimed “radical feminists” or “radfems” in very low regard. A lot of younger feminists think that the older ideas of gender as a social construct are pretty silly and harmful to real people, and they’ve moved past that.

The author is sickening and sad. He thinks he is empowering himself by finding reasons to control women. He must be terrified of strong women.

It is not the Church but individual men and, sadly, some women who say this. I am quite sure Pope Francis would not say this.
