**Fellside, No where in the bible does it suggest that a Christian CANNOT fall away or walk away from their faith… People have in the bible and still do fall from grace. To suggest they never were saved to begin with lacks logic and is unbiblical.Some things were assumed of me in this thread that simply are not true.
Edit: Thanks for the information on the Catholic church’s view’s of election. It’s encouraging to see sound doctrine in other places.
- I believe that Christ died for the whole world.
- I believe that man has free will according to his nature. In the same way that a man doesn’t have the free will to turn into a pig, sinners do not have a desire for Christ. But we still have free will. When a sinner murders someone, it isn’t because God made him do it.
- I do not believe that everyone who claims to be a Christian, or everyone that prayed some prayer and walked down an aisle, is truely saved. I too believe that if someone does not follow Christ with their life, that they are lost. But I still believe “Once saved always saved” because those who fall away were never really His. They aren’t the elect.
Lets see what Jesus says about his followers.
Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Matthew 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended…which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
John 8:34-35 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin(not a son). [35] And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
John 14:21-23 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. [22] Judas saith unto him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? [23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
So, one can have faith yet fall away.!!! it is quite clear according to Christ**.
