So far we have about 82% of poll respondents saying that they read the Bible either daily or at least 4 times a week, which I think is pretty good! 👍

I also noticed that something like half of us have more than one Bible.

This all seems to fly in the face of the allegation that I based this poll thread on, and that is also very good.😃

i not only read and hear the scriptures daily (Mass) but i write them as well… and send them to shut-ins who can’t go to Mass.

So… Protestants… when is the last time you wrote out scripture (word for word)?? 😃

I just realized that I answered incorrectly. I put that I read 4 times a week, which is when I read directly from my NAB Study Bible. But actually, I read the daily readings almost everyday, so really I should have answered “Daily.”

Either way, I find it silly that Protestants are so critical of Catholics for “Not Reading the Bible.” In three years, we read nearly the entire Bible simply by attending Mass. How is this confusing? Even the Rosary teaches us twenty of the most important Bible Stories! Even though I can’t quote Scripture Chapter and Verse from memory, I am much better informed than my favorite Baptist debater about the Bible’s contents. For instance, I used the Transfiguration as a support for an argument we were having. He didn’t know what I was talking about, so I described the events. He argued extensively that Jesus and Moses had never seen each other, let alone conversed… Anyhoo, I had to look up it’s reference, but at least I won one for the RCCs…

😃

I find I use the Bible when friends and loved ones need help. One Protestant friend of mine thanked me for an inspirational email I had sent her when she was very depressed, saying that my words were wonderful…I replied that they were not my words but Saint Paul’s!

To distracted and kmleo i dont think there is any need for sarcastic comments. All christians are different there are those that are more devout than others in both catholic and protestant churches why does it always go back to an us and them situation. I am very drawn to the catholic faith and i am working my way through the catholic answer bible and using living faith catholic bible notes. I think we all need to be a little more charitable to one another . with christian love burdock.

To Burdock: AMEN!

Guys, I don’t think they meant to be uncharitable. Did you happen to read the direct quote that I used to kick off this thread?
Go into any RC church today and just see how many people have a bible! As a matter of fact ask the first 100 Rc’s when they last read the Bible themselves.
That…was the nice part of the guy’s post on an a-C forum.

I opened this thread to get information and stats to offer in rebuttal and posted a link to this poll there. For which I was promptly banned…

Though I agree that we should always deal with each other in charity, the vast majority of comments on this thread have been pretty exemplary, and I hope they continue to be so.

This is not a debate thread anyway…it’s an informational poll.
Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

i wasn’t being sarcastic… Maybe a little tired of always being presumed by Protestants not to know the Bible… but not sarcastic…

Can you even remotely imagine what it is like to ALWAYs be the underdog?? I mean, Catholics are persecuted more than any other religion… Where i live there are even fewer Catholics than elsewhere in the nation… I get it all the time… So maybe it is you who should have a little compassion… we are human… we get tired of always being… attacked, always hearing the same old same old about how we worship Mary, invented Purgatory, etc etc…

to distracted im sorry i have offended you . It must be difficult if you always have to explain things when people go on about mary and so on. Please reread my post and let me assure you that as a person who can be intensely sarcastic, there was not a drop of it to be found in my lighthearted testimony of which every word is true.

Peace of Christ be with You!

I own several different verisons of the Bible. I must have over 15 Bibles. I have the NIV, NKJ, KJV, 4 different Catholic Bibles, and some I don’t even know the names of them. (maybe because I don’t use them much?)

I mostly use one of my Catholic Bibles to read. Although sometimes I do look at my NIV if I don’t completely get the “Gest” of the Scripture, for comparison.

True I am a Cradle Catholic. I ventured out to other Churchs when I was 20…searching…along the way…I would return to the Catholic Church to “Visit Home” so to speak…still searching…I at last “Seen the Truth”. Thankfully God has much patience, as it only took me 30 years to see the Complete Truth had been taught to me all along. So I guess that makes me a “Returning Catholic” as well. I learned a lot along the way from other Churchs about the Bible. Only to find out that everything about the Catholic Church is true, other Churchs taught me this and they didn’t even know it. Of course my eyes were truely Opened to everything when I started to see the things that E.G.White, (Ellen White) that the Adventist follow, it just didn’t “set right” with me. And so God led me back to the Catholic Church.

Actually, I was reading James earlier today. I do devotions morning and evening, which always includes a Bible verse, but that’s not reading the Bible. I do read it several times a week. I’ve read it through a couple of times; it’s time I did that again.

Bibles I own:
Douay-Rheims, Bishop Challoner version
NAB
Jerusalem Bible -this one is my favorite, but very hard to find!
New Jerusalem Bible
King James sans Apocrypha
Thompson Chain Reference, KJV sans Apocrypha -what a tool!
Latin Vulgate

And for those of you who think you live in a Catholic minority area: I live in a 99% Buddhist country. Beat that.

“About 5 minutes ago” wasn’t up there, but that’s my answer, along with “I own several”.

RSV: 3 Copies
NAB:4 Copies
Gideons: 5 Copies
  1. Catholic Family Edition (Large NAB)
  2. Strongs
  3. Catholic “daily” Bible.
  4. “kjv” from the mormons.
Also several other “Holy Books” on my shelf.
  1. Dhamapadda
  2. Bagvatgita
    3, Quran (5 copies).
  3. Other misc. Eastern stuff (Tao etc).
One of my prized possessions (other than my RSV from RCIA) is the Zohar. 23 Volume ancient rabbinical OT commentary. Very Nice.

The primary electronic (esword) Bible I use is typically the DRB. Occasionally though I find myself in Biblia Clerus software which is NAB.

So much reading to do. Gotta go. 😃

I used to collect Bibles too till I became allergic to cats & dogs. ROFL my cat always wanted to be petted while I was reading 🤷 now most of my old Bibles I cant even touch.

Till I became allergic I had
RSV-CE 1 Copies (My Fav Catholic Bible)
NAB 2 Copies
KJV: 5 Copies (Cant tell that I was raised Protestant;) )
NKJV 4 Copies (My fav protestant Bible)
NIV 1 Copies
Gideons 1 Copies

I know that the Quran is the Islamic Bible. But what are the Dhamapadda & the Bagvatgita sorry but I’ve never heard of these.
