Archbishop Raymond Burke, said this week that Catholics, especially politicians who publically defend abortion, should not receive Communion,
Thank heaven for a faithful bishop who loves God more than the world. May all of our other bishops be this much in love with God.

Blessings, Annem

Rightfully so, since this compounds the first sin with a second - scandal.

Rome, Aug 19, 2008 / 10:00 am (CNA).- The prefect of the Apostolic Signature, Archbishop Raymond Burke, said this week that Catholics, especially politicians who publically defend abortion, should not receive Communion, and that ministers of Communion should be responsibly charitable in denying it to them if they ask for it, ?until they have reformed their lives.?http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/catholicnewsagency/dailynews/~4/369117275

I have said this since the fiasco at Yankee stadium when Pope Benedict the XVII visited the U.S.👍

I have a question: With politicians being asked to abstain from communion due to their public support of abortion shouldn’t we expect Church “leaders” who support candidates who support abortion also be asked to abstain or publically denounce abortion?

The reason I ask (I hope it is ok to ask this based on the rules in the sticky about political candidates) there is a Nun. Sr. Catherine Pinkerton from Cleveland who is supporting a certian candidate who is an avid supporter of abortion and even infanticide, she is even speaking in a highly public venue.

It has created a great deal of confusion among my family members who now think that since she is endorsing the person and they are so very pro-abortion that maybe it would be ok for them to vote for the person as well. I really do not know what to say to my family because unless the Bishop publically discusses the problem with this I do not think I will be able to convince them it would be a mistake to follow this Nun’s example.

When ever I hear about Priests, Nuns etc who take these stances it always makes me worry about those who will be led astray by their visible albeit very unorthodox role in the Church.

Thanks for your help!

Assure them that the sister has not right to abuse her role. She can be held to account by any OTHER layperson. Don’t need the bishop’s permission to contradict her. She speaks for herself alone, has no right to pretend to speak for the Church. Think of her as just like Jesse Jackson.
