Catholics with Church-friends grow in faith better

When I moved to Scotland 10 years ago I found it impossible to make any Catholic friends. I don’t know why, it just didn’t happen. After about 6 years I became friendly with a woman I met at a prayer group and that made all the difference. That friendship helped me grow in faith. Shortly after that I found the local trads That community tends to be more close because most of us feel like a church within a church, and stick together. These last 3 years have been amazing, both socially and spiritually.

I’m moving abroad again in 2 weeks and must confess I am a bit nervous about meeting Catholics. I will have to join all sorts of groups in the parish in order to meet people. I really hope I will not be alone.

i dread leaving my post-mass gatherings on Sunday because it means i have to return to boring old me and the godless society we live in.

I am sure you could find some of us godless types who would be happy to discuss religious issues with you in a non-boring way. Many of us like Catholics, and don’t find them boring at all!

I do definitely I think it can be a challenge in today s world. Years back when you met people or kids rather they would say they were so and so from this Church or that Church.

I know first hand that it is something you need to work at which is sad in a way but you know it makes easier for you to pick. My 2 closest friends don’t attend Church and are secular really and for the most part those they hang around with are. So for me I feel really outlasted which I don’t mind because it comes with being Catholic.

That’s part of why I joined the Knights. I feel like I am part of something and the guys there really make you feel your with the guys.

Take part it outside mass things the Church does maybe a catechism class, bible study. Of course Newman centers. Or there are even for college students, groups that are part of Frats and sororities that are practicing Catholics. But it does make a huge difference for your faith if you don’t have to worry about being you when around your friends. I still get apprehensive about it. I hate leaving out details about something I am doing for the Church, and I don’t go into detail because it never seems they want to know any more about it.

If your a senior in college at a Catholic Church go out and play pool or something with people who you see in the Church at school and who you see over and over again at mass. That’s key. Go out with the ones who attend regularly, today that’s a good sign as any.

You just find a council that is close to you, and say you want to join. As long as you are a practicing Catholic in union with the Holy See your good. Also there may be a way to contact the council in your Church Bulletin.
