CatholicTV rolls out shows in 3-D to attract youth

BOSTON — Avatars and Mad Hatters are already performing before American audiences in 3-D, and Shrek is coming soon. Now, a national Catholic television network is throwing priests into the mix.

CatholicTV debuted 3-D programs Tuesday in an effort to reach younger people and to make the faith message more vivid. The network posted several 3-D shows on the Internet, released its monthly magazine in 3-D — complete with glasses — and said it will eventually broadcast some programs in 3-D.

CatholicTV’s director, the Rev. Robert Reed, said he’d been planning to introduce 3-D well before the success of James Cameron’s movie “Avatar” or the 3-D “Alice in Wonderland.”

“It’s a way for us to show that we believe the message we have is relevant, and we’re going to use every possible avenue to bring that message to people,” said Reed, whose network reaches 5 million to 6 million homes nationwide through various cable providers.

I hope they succeed with this, but i am a little concerned/perplexed.

What people should really want is the Truth, not entertainment commonly found at mega churches. Young people have a lot of zeal and no where to direct it, so we see a lot of teens swept up in marxism and all other manner of what they perceive as social justice nowadays. I guarantee these liberal groups and causes don’t try to entertain youth like this, they get into the education system and educate kids with their bias, and what do you know…the public school system turns out far left liberal students like clockwork, and the same story with many universities with very liberal professors, they transform students into militant atheists on a yearly basis. what we really need is passionate education in our CCD classes that makes the youth feel a sense of purpose, sense of belonging, and a drive to live life to its fullest as a Catholic Christian. I have to admit my CCD classes were a bit better than some of the horror stories i have heard about students told to color pictures rather than read the Scriptures, but what we have now are class after class of confirmation candidates getting confirmed with no ability to explain the most simple of Catholic doctrines, no ability to defend basic concepts like the existence of God, no will to deepen their knowledge of the faith or attend mass once a week. The vast majority of confirmation candidates are left with no solid foundation; just a heap of rocks that they don’t know how to put together into the foundation they should have.

I hope CatholicTV succeeds with this, but i hope they are able to attract young people with substance as well, rather than flash.

Me too, but the Church has been way behind the curve with infotech since Gutenberg – just good to see a case where one RC ministry has caught up. As you say, let’s hope they do it right.
