Caught between East and West

Thats great, that you have those opportunites to be at Divine Liturgy or at your Church’s Mass. I know that last sunday I missed the Divine Liturgy , I had gotten to Church late, but I was also aware that like The RC we too have a tabernacle on our altar for reserved Sacrament. It was enough just sitting there and having that time to spend in prayer and reflection.

Hi folks, I have just had the chance the log in since my original post. Thank you so much for all the excellent responses! They have offered me great advice and insight and I greatly appreciate it.

I guess I have been looking at the issue in far too black and white terms. I would either be Roman Catholic or I would be Eastern Orthodox. But this is evidently far too simplistic a way to view things. I must confess, if I’m being honest, in the past I have perhaps been guilty of being a little dismissive of Eastern Catholicism as an option for me. There is a lot of uninformed negativity out there about the ECC. But maybe that’s where God is leading me after all.

I am now sure that I must remain in communion with Rome. As I mentioned previously, I have no problem with the RCC. It is the faith of my upbringing, I am comfortable with it. But my outlook has become much more ‘Eastern’. I used to think that to be truly ‘Eastern’ I must be Orthodox, but that isnt the case. I can still appreciate the holiness of Orthodoxy, I can still venerate its saints, but I can do so as a Catholic and have no problem with this.

I suppose I still have a lot of thinking to do but I will visit the nearest EC church and see how I feel about it.
