If you want to get rid of abortion you are going to have to GREATLY increase the role of the welfare state.

Abortion is a matter of morality, not poverty. Just as stealing. If a poor person steals because she is poor, she is arrested. The same should be done about abortion.

If that is so, it does not change the validity of the observation that it is better not to have sex if your circumstances are not consistent with raising a child.

Parents have to be prepared to sacrifice for their children, and family and society at large should want to help the less well off.

The solution is to have moral sex. A stable family with a other and a father will be able to raise a child properly.
Being poor is a blessing, not something to be feared. If these women really cared about the child they would not murder them. Being murdered is worse than being poor. They are just selfish and deserve punishment.

I am not defending them. I would like to get to the root causes. I think a real solution has to go to education, mentoring and support of young man & women, especially poor young women.

The education is the condemnation of immoral sex.
The rest is condemned by the Church.
In the past children received no sexual education and turned out just fine.
It was since the introduction of sexual education that things started to go awry.

Do you think they do not know sex outside of marriage is not immoral according to religious people and condemned by the Church? I think they know but do not care or believe it. Sure, in a church setting we can talk about morality and sin. In the public setting it makes more sense to talk about the practical outcomes of risky behavior and the reality of life.

From an early age they need to learn self respect and know the possible consequences of their actions and the impact these actions will have on their futures. They need to be affirmed in their capabilities to fulfill their dreams and think beyond immediate gratification.

But if she steals, because she has no other means to feed herself, it is a lesser sin if it is a sin at all. The catechism of the Catholic church actually teaches this. While I don’t believe that abortion can be justified the same way, if the vast majority of people are having abortions because they don’t believe that can afford t take care of the child, maybe we need to take a good hard look at that.

We are all sinners. You can teach people to have moral sex and they will still have immoral sex. People make mistakes.

And while being poor does give you insight, in this modern world, it’d be very hard to actually be poor. It’s one thing to be able to quote biblical passage about how the meek will inherit the earth. It’s another thing to be wondering how on earth you’ll be able to afford groceries this week and avoid going to doctor’s because you can’t afford to go.

If you want to combat abortion, yes, you need education like you state. But you also need to help those that made mistakes.
