If you are the cause for somebody doing something that is illegal (and thus, may be a venial sin?), is your own sin (bing the cause) venial or mortal?

Specific case.
I’ve been taking care (kind of) of an injured pigeon again. With no feet not. Since It had been very ill and is now btter again, I thought it was ok to feed it sometimes ven though the law forbids it (since I am NOT feeding pigeons grand scale).
But 2 days ago I got caught and scurity told me specifically to not feed the pigeons there.
Today I talked to an old lady about that pigeon and sh saw its disability and had pity on it too and asked if I didn’t hav any bread for it.
I thought doing it just after bing told not to might be more sinful… but then I gave the bread to the lady that SHE could feed it (thinking if sh does it it’s ok).
But I may have causd her to commit a venial sin? I felt cowardly and apologized to her but she didn’t think it was anything to worry about,

If I did cause her to commit a venial sin, would that mak me sinning just venially also?

Ok, sorry, I guess this was another scrupulous question.😊 😊

Good thing nobody replied I guess… 😉

God bless you all,

I’m not sure I COMPLETELY understood everything…

But it’s only wrong to break a law if it’s a reasonable law that is NOT at odds with Christ’s teachings. Being forbidden to feed an injured pigeon does not sound reasonable or Christian to me.

(And yes, you’re being scrupulous 😉 🙂 )

There is a reason that pigeons are called rats with feathers. They are known to be carriers of various diseases, their excrement does damage to buildings and public areas - statutes, benches, etc., and can also transmit disease; they tend to push other birds out and are generally more than just a nuisance.

People who feed them see no harm in the feeding, in spite of the fact that feeding pigeons has a tendency to create larger flocks that then become dependent on a hand out. You are not doing the pigeons much good by doing so, even though you may feel that you are. The biggest problem is that people react on feelings, not facts.

Instead of getting your knickers in a twist about whether or not it is a sin, why not consider the potential damage you are assisiting in by continuing to feed them? There are numerou articles on the problems created by feeding wildlife - bears, skunks, possums, raccoons and other various animals. The only ones that seem to be able to deal with human food and thrive are sparrows, chickadees, etc. - the songbirds. They also are beneficial as they use the seed provided by humans as an addition rather than as a sole source. however, pigeons become quite dependent upon humans feeding them, to the point of creating major nuisances, as well as the damage and disease issue.

If you want to feed birds, get a bird feeder and do it at your home. You have a soft spot for this pigeon; but in plain English, get over it and move on.

She’s feeding ONE injured pigeon!

the only thing I can say to this is:

“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s”

This is a matter for your own conscience as to which this particular situation falls into, I would however remind you of the teachings of St Francis of Assisi who said:

“If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.”

so yeah pidgeons r disgusting filthy things. . .but there are some humans that the same thing could be said, we are obliged to emulate the teachings of Christ who as far as I can recall never said his love and compassion was exclusionary, and if ya think about it pidgeons could be described as analogious to lepers of the His time. . .

maybe… . … . .

of course that doesnt really address the fact that you are responsible for another person breaking the law. . .

Which you probably knowingly done, but I imagine is only an itty bity sin!

so you should be fine!

I know the difficulties/contoversy about feeding pigeons. That is why I am not going out there to feed them grand scale, just if I have to catch an injured one (yetserday I caught one with a string around a leg, and with the help of another woman could free it from that and let it fly again). OR if there is one that is sick or injured or for some reason seems to need some extra strength. Yes, I know, natural selection and all that… but there is this thing called compassion too… (hey and I am a part of nature too right??)😉
Anyway that specific one was very sick a while ago and I seriously considered trying to catch it and let it be put to sleep. It is still disabled but does not seem sick anymore. Why not give it some extra bits to recuperate from the sickness? It sits there and waits for handouts. When it sees me come sometimes it flies up to me.
Don’t worry, I will try very hard to not make it dependent on me, as in a bit more than a month I am leaving for a longer period of time.

(Just one add-on: I ahve also heard another view of the pigeon feeding controversy. That by not giving them food anymore, people reduce their flocks basically by starving their young. Which doesn’t seem right either.)

God intended us to care for all of his creation, He excluded nothing. There’s no sin in either case, unless it was done with the intention of rebelling (in which case, the intention is the sin). I applaud you! Keep it up (carefully, so you don’t get into trouble:) ).

And that bird knows me now!
I was walking over the station to they and suddenly, zoom, there it was, flying right up to me again.

I’ll be leaving in a little more than a month, for a longer period of time, so I don’t want to make it dependent on me.

But I think that’s kind of cute…
🙂

Ask your Guardian Angel to give the bird the help it needs to get around, otherwise to die peacefully in it’s sleep. That’s my prayer when I come across a creature I can’t help, or can’t help much.

Nothing quite like earning the trust of an animal. 🙂 👍
