This means a lot to me. I appreciate you sharing such an event, as it will lead me to choose my words carefully. I have but a small understanding of the Catholic doctrine, and am mainly learning from the responses I receive here.…Well, we sit down and the leader says “tell us how you came to Christ”. I thought he said “tell us how you come to Christ.” Unfortunately, I’m sitting by the leader and asked to go first. I said “I come to Him in humility by prayer, in the Eucharist, and in the Priest (good thing I didn’t add Confession).” Everyone looked at me like I was from Mars. Fortunately, there was a Catholic there who had some experience so he “saved” me by saying, let me go first. This time, by the time it got to me, I knew what the questions was and its context.
Now it is funny but at the time it was quite tramatic.
I read a few things in the legalism thread that seemed to be taking the debate into a dangerous area where I might have offended others or they me. Maybe it could be continued at a later time, when more understanding has been reached on my part. Understand that I harbour no ill feelings about any of these responses.
I believe that the Apostles used testimonies as a way to fellowship with one another. I think that it opens doors when someone hears a testimony that they can relate to. How better to teach the love of God, than by expressing how that love affected you. I hope you would share your experiences with me.
As a funny sidenote, that incident reminded me of something said during the cold war. Krushev said to the U.S.,“We will bury you” This was taken literally by many as a threat. It had to be explained that he actually meant it as “we will outlast you”. I think this is what God was trying to say about our tounges being like a double edged sword.
