Just seeking help remembering the titles of the textbook series we might have used in our suburban parish’s weekday catechism classes (I was in maybe 4th or 5th grade) during the early 1970s: the books were paperback and square in shape; a different book for each school year. Fairly colorful covers. Not planning to find and use them again but just having a memory lapse on the titles. Might have been Paulist publications. Thanks for any help.

Elementary school catechism texts from the early 1970s? Hmm…

Could it have been Celebrating Niceness in the Community by Hanna Milquetoast (Postconciliar Press, 1971)? I think the cover had a picture of four children of different races smiling and holding hands in a circle.

How about Father White’s “Our Way to God Series?” I still have one on my bookshelf, book 10 “The Ten Commandments.” This was a confirmation book (I think), but there are apparently other books in the series.

Also, on the edge of the book is the title “Christ our Way” – Benzinger Brothers, INC.

Thanks. I emailed the current religious-ed director, who was there back then, and she said the books were published by Salier and that one of them was We Believe. I thought I’d be able to find citations for the editions of the 60s on the web somewhere…I’ll keep searching!

:rotfl: Is that for real?? Sorry if it is…sounds plausible except for the author! Too funny.

Hmm… Sadlier currently publishes a “We Believe” series. Is the series forty years old?

Sadlier was around in the 70s so it’s very possible. Happily, I went through the grey cover Baltimore Catechism time and I didn’t learn how to be a Protestant like my kids did from Sadlier.
