Well, there you go, then. Insofar as civil unions are de facto tantamount to homosexual “marriages”, I repudiate anything I have ever said in their favor. This said, though, I can foresee that there could be individual situations, between either a man and a woman, two men, or two women, where the simulation of conjugal life (including intimate relations) wouldn’t even be an issue — not everybody can or does practice intimacy — but some kind of legal protection could be needed. It makes it clear that Catholics cannot support civil unions for homosexuals. Helps clear some things up.
