Celebrating a birthday on Easter?

My boyfriend’s friend is planning on celebrating his birthday on Saturday, April 15 at a nightclub. I have expressed my concerns to them that at 12am while they are drinking and partying it becomes Easter Sunday. They however don’t see that it is wrong since it still is “the night before” and that they are going to go to church on Sunday anyway.

How do I respond to this? I am having a hard time defending my thoughts against theirs.

I’m not surprised that you’re having a hard time defending your thoughts on this. I don’t see any problem - what are your thoughts?
My 29th wedding anniversary falls on Easter Sunday this year and I think Mrs. Gloor would not be happy if we didn’t celebrate both occasions.
 
Why not attend the Easter Vigil first. Some parishes have it around 7 or 7:30. After the Mass, then maybe they can go to the b’day party.

Well, I can agree with Good Friday, but Easter Sunday is a celebration- the cause of which is our Lord’s resurrection from the dead.
Technically speaking, His suffering ended at 3 PM on Friday.
 
That is true. Thank you so much for your insight. I just was so upset that they would even think of doing it on that day.

Does anyone else have anything they would like to add on this issue?
 
You wanna hear something funny? A couple of years ago I turned 33, and my birthday landed on Good Friday!

I felt so weird… 😛

Well partying and and drinking aren’t your plans are they. The drinking into Sunday would be were I can see something beyond innocent celebration.

I’ve never done either. I’m very bland many people tell me. I really don’t see why anyone would want to.
Respecting the Sunday as a day above other days is something important though.

but certainly NOT our mourning.
to have a party the Holy Saturday, a day of grief and silence, reveals lack of all christian virtues.
ignorance, shallowness, vanity.

If he can’t cancel or postpone a party, how will he deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Jesus?
