Celebrating Baptism during Lent

There was a Baptism during Mass this morning. It the first one we’ve had in Lent in a long time and I had never heard so many Alleluias during Lent before.

Immediately after the Baptism the choir normally sings the Celtic Alleluia. They did it this morning. Then they sang the usual “You have put on Christ, in him you have been baptized, alleluia, alleluia” as the parents returned to their pew with the child.

Just wondering if we’re supposed to skip those sections during Lent. I do the baptismal preparation and hadn’t even thought to discuss this with Father and the choir.
 
Having a Baptism during Lent is fine per pastoral judgement. The use of the “Alleluia” was a mistake and likely due to lack of liturgical training of the musicians. You might ask your pastor about it.
 
Traditionally in the Roman Rite the use of “alleluia” is avoided in liturgical contexts during Lent.

However, in Eastern Catholic Churches “alleluia” is still used throughout Lent.

So, it is not some intrinsically bad practice or something - it’s just not the traditional Roman Rite practice.

However, there may well be a dispensation permitted for using it during baptisms since they are joyous occasions no matter when they are celebrated.
