Soooooo… what do you all do to celebrate Easter? Especially after Mass (that’s a given).

My wife and I are separated from family for the first time. There are friends around though!

Maybe we should throw an Easter party? Hmmmmmmmmmmm

We don’t live by any family either. We take our kids to the parish Easter egg hunt after the 10:30 Mass, then to the park, and we eat a nice ham dinner to which we invite our friends without family in the area.

Though we’re Americans, we live permanently near Tokyo, which means we have lots of foreign friends who love to get a taste of home. Easter is a thing here for Japanese Catholics, too, of course, but those churches and people are few and far between. So, we’re opening our house to our expat friends. A bunch of friends, mostly single (but one couple with one child), are coming over for Easter dinner. We’ve gotta work all day tomorrow cooking and cleaning to make sure all is ready for the big party. All the kids are excited…even I’m excited! How can I not be? Best family a man could ask for, wonderful friends, and the greatest feast days of the Church. What a feast it’ll be at my house!

Try to get Meredith Gould’s The Catholic Home. She has lots of ideas about the holidays.

We are having dinner at my parents’ house. They serve a large ham dinner.

My sister and her kids have been dyeing eggs.

In previous years I was still pretty much Agnostic and because of my age I did not consider Easter to be that important so I did not do much at all.

This year is completely different, I have found the light of the Lord and see this as an incredibly important weekend. I will of course be attending Mass throughout The Sacred Triduum, I attended last night, will attend in about an hours time, tomorrow and Sunday.

I think after Mass I will spend time with my family and other than that I will look at my Bible readings and pray.

Saturday- Bless baskets with Easter breakfast
Sunday- Find hidden baskets. Go to Mass, egg hunt after mass. Go home, eat said breakfast, and get dinnder cooking. Relax/clean up for an hour, then take the kids into the backyard for an egg hunt (DH’s thing). Eat dinner around 2pm!
