Not to burst your bubble, but you can be triggered at any age. Celiac disease can be latent - I know of 70 and 80 year olds who have had their latent celiac disease triggered by some kind of illness.

Just be aware. If you start getting symptoms you know what to do.
My sister was disgnosed at 65 yrs old. She’ll be 70 soon and
until her horrible illness and finally, the diagnosis, no one in our
family hade even heard of celiac disease. She stays gluten-free
now and is healthy and feels well.

🙂 Good for her! There are those older people who refuse to follow the diet. Their path is not a pleasant one. Of course there are also younger people who stupidly do not take their diet seriously - 😛

I know - I had no idea such a thing existed either. Allergic? To FOOD??? All in my growing years, no one was ever allergic to food. Maybe allergic to doing the dishes after the meal, but NEVER the food!

😉

Funny thing is that she was such a health-minded eater.
No fads, no binges, just good nutrition.

Celiac disease is an equal-opportunity autoimmune disease. My son was a fantastic eater from birth. Ate anything and everything, always loved food, ate with gusto. I was starting to let him help me prep and cook. He was routinely at 90%tile height and 95%tile weight. Until he simply wasn’t. And then he got really sick, as your sister probably did.

At least the “cure” is quite simple, doesn’t require surgery or expensive medication. 👍
