So I’m civilly married and me and my wife are going through marriage prep process. My wife wants our co validation to take place in December. I stated that we should do abstinence. She doesn’t want to follow this. I think she went to her work (rehab center) and asked the RNs there about it because just last night she mentioned that if we don’t use our reproductive systems for that long we will be at risk for pancreatic cancer or other health issues. Is this true? Are there studies on priests nuns or monks on this or any other health issues due to not using them?

This is not true. The body is well equipped to dispose of unused semen as well as unused eggs. Not having sex won’t kill you, as noted by the significant number of priests, nuns and monks who are celibate their entire lives.

Lololol. I haven’t seen my husband since May and we aren’t dead.

I was tempted to laugh but managed to control myself. No, celibacy is certainly not a health problem or risk. Having said that, December is ten months away and it is natural that your wife has desires. Can’t you speak to your pastor and speed up the marriage prep somewhat?

Lol. Well my wife is the one who picked the Dec date.

I think you know the answer. That argument sounds less like a married woman who wishes to be Holy and to help a spouse be Holy and more like a teenager trying to persuade a date on prom night…

A cock bull story if I ever heard one. Do you think Christ, through the Church, would demand we do someting contrary to good health? Sounds like your wife is listening to Nurses speaking out of school and who have bought in to the ideology of sexual liberation.

Did you mean to say “prostate cancer” and not pancreatic cancer? I think the prostate cancer would make more sense in relationship to celibacy. But still not likely over less than a year. Priests are celibate for a long time. (Although, I didn’t read the article so I can’t comment on whether you are at higher risk for prostate cancer with lifelong celibacy)

Did she know that you needed to abstain until then when she picked the date?

Don’t buy into the “have sex for health” nonsense from liberal sources. Those studies were funded by Hugh Hefner.

So I found this article that claims priests have higher rates of prostate cancer. It didn’t seem to give a source but it mentions certain ways “milking” or “exercise”. Are these methods morally licit?

I think we all know you need to be talking more to your wife than to us.
If you have issues with paying the “marital debt” as it were to her then, if she loves you, why would she not bring the date forward?

That is complete and total nonsense.

I bet the RNs at the rehab center believed they were being true and sincere. Even if they are wrong.

Sorry I meant prostate cancer. So I’m just wondering if there’s any studies though that go against the theory that it can cause health problems?

Ok so I searched if anyone had asked a similar question and found one and there were links given to studies that suggest otherwise for celibacy leading to prostate cancer. Here are the links

umm.edu/health/medical/reports/articles/prostate-cancer

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7242091

The UMM site lists risks for prostate cancer and no where says that abstinence or celibacy is a risk. The second link shows that the rate in catholic priests wasn’t any higher than the general public. If anyone has further articles/studies etc. it would be greatly appreciated.

Even if!

The ends do not justify the means.

To commit a mortal sin - is a greater risk to one (and contrary to love) - than any theoretical health issue. (I am not saying there is any such issue I am saying it is a moot question)

Even *if *there was…

Lets see:

Some risk of death in this life.

vs

Risk of eternal death (hell…the second death…) or rather the choice of hell.

Choose true life - do what needs to be done to live in the grace of true life in Christ.

If they do not have a valid marriage there is absolutely no “martial debt” and the only sexual “debt” that is owed is to refuse to engage in sex until they are married.
