What do you think? Besides, no children also means no brats to drive you nutzo and no teen age trouble.
I think it is worth it!

Of course it is, these are your children! Brats? Angels more like it.

WHAT!!!

Does this mean that Joseph and Mary didn’t have a valid marrage, since they didn’t have sex?
Joseph and Mary had a valid marriage. There is no contradition, because consumation is not a requirement for a valid marriage.

See this thread for details.

Yup, on both.
Well that’s really interesting…what is nonsexual love then?

How did you get past marriage preparation if you’ve always been opposed to having children?

It’s obvious your choice not to have children is not one driven by spiritual growth but rather for a disdain for little ones…but, trust me, they grow up…and if you do a good job as a parent you will watch these little ones turn into well-rounded adults you actually enjoy conversing with.

If there are so many brats in the world, all the more reason to have children to raise them in the Catholic faith so that we can eventually outnumber them.

Then again, seeing as your understanding of what being Catholic is is incorrect, it is certainly wiser to hold off on having children until you reach your reconversion. I would begin by listening to Christopher West’s Marriage and the Eucharist (you can get it for free from the Mary Foundation).

From there, read West’s Theology of the Body for Beginners and move on to JPIIs Theology of the Body itself.

I’m sure you and your wife are content with your arrangement but spiritually you are both being deprived of participating in the mystery of the Trinity and the graces which come with the special vocation of marriage. If you only knew how much you were missing just from the marital embrace itself. The sex does not have to result in children, especially if you two are not ready for that, but the unitive affect of sex as a celebration of your love for each other and for your thankfulness to God for bringing you two together is an experience couples should not do without.

Reading your links, you are not quite correct.
Consumation is a requirement for a valid marriage, however, the Roman Pontiff alone, has the power to dispense that requirement under certain circumstances.

Note that the priest can’t do it.
The bishop can’t do it.
The dispensation committee can’t do it.
ONLY the Roman Pontiff can, so that has to be quite a serious matter.

Statements like this reflect the maturity, skills and abilities of the parents, not the children. Children are not born ‘brats’. When parenting is approached responsibly as stewards of God’s gift to mankind one doesn’t raise brats and the teenager does not give one trouble.

Small price to pay for a clean soul.

But your soul is not clean if you have chosen celibacy because you don’t want any children. You have essentially removed God from your marriage which is a breach in the covenant you entered with Him when you and your wife married in the Church. Refusal to consumate the marriage on ‘pretense’ that it’s in order to live a more spiritual life is still a deception and therefore cannot result in a clean soul. All the prayers and rituals you offer to God in lieu of sex with your wife are not going to please Him when He knows in your heart you’re avoiding sex because you dislike God’s gift of children so much.

Again, children are God’s gift and they come to us pure. Parents nurture or corrupt them. If you and your wife know for certain you could not possible nurture a life - that you’d definitely raise a brat who will be a pain forever - then you should practice NFP so that God’s grace can move through you and your wife during each marital embrace to help you discern more clearly your abilities to be good stewards of His gift of life. Trust in Him to help you see the Truth.

Can’t you see that there is no spiritual growth for you or your wife if you cut God out because you don’t Trust Him? By avoiding sex because you don’t want children your bodies are telling Him you can’t and won’t Trust Him with your future. But the future is not yours to begin with - it belongs to Him.

The only thing in my heart is type O+ blood. And we (me and my wife) ain’t turning away from the heavenly father, it’s the sex we’re turning away from.👍

Why? Sex isn’t bad, it isn’t evil. G-d made sex. It’s great, when used in a marriage between a man and his wife.

By not having sex, you’re turning away from what the Heavenly Father gave you to share. God gave you your sexuality so that you can give it to your wife, and vice versa, so use it.

Need I remind you that Abraham, Noah, Elizabeth (Mary’s sister), and just about any other saint that was married had sex and had children. Mary and Joseph was the only exception to this; their marriage was a very unique one.

oh dear,

Talk about throwing away the baby with the bath water. Why become room mates to ensure financial ability to provide? Get a part time job if needed and just trust God to provide. There is always a way to make it work it’s just a matter of cutting coupons and proper budgeting. God is not limited by our fears, he can make things happen and he will.

I’m afraid you are confusing several different aspects of canon law here. Of the following list, only the last is a requirement for a valid marriage:
  • Actual consumation of the marriage.
  • Intent to ask for payment of the marital debt.
  • Intent to honor the marital debt should one’s spouse ask for it.
A couple enter into a valid marriage when they are pronounced man and wife. The marriage is valid even if the man has an accident at the reception and is rendered impotent, so the marriage is never consumated.

However, if the man is impotent prior to the wedding ceremony, the marriage is invalid, and not even the Pope can dispense from this impediment.

What you are probably thinking of is that the Pope (and only the Pope) can dispense a valid, sacramental but unconsumated marriage. This is similar to a divorce, in that a valid marriage is terminated. It is different than an annulment, in which a marriage is declared to have been invalid from the onset.

Not wanting children wasn’t just the reason, it’s also because sex is secular. Especially–YUCC–naked sex and nudity. And (even me wife agress on that) our bodies, they’re temples that shouldn’t be abused by nudity.

Did you even read my last post?

Abraham had sex. Even while Sarah was sterile. As did just about any other saint who was married.

Now that’s really interesting.
Going back to creation, Adam was not repulsed by Eve, nor was she by him, not to mention neither was created clothed.
In fact, woman was created to complete man, and that completion does not occur until sex. It is the marital embrace itself which brings husband and wife to holiness.

The fact that you consider nudity unholy and sex abusive reveals you and your wife have some real re-educating to do. Again, I suggest you begin with Marriage and the Eucharist and follow with the rest. To be a faithful Catholic and reject John Paul IIs Theology of the Body does not make sense.

Why did you choose marriage instead of Holy Orders if you carry the view of the human body as being a temple to be offered to God alone and never shared with another human being?

Don’t forget, at that time, Adam and Eve weren’t ashamed till they ate the forbidden fruit; after that, they sewed fig leaves to cover themselves.

There’s also the matters of God’s Laws Of Decency.

Yucc.

Besides, Abraham had sex with another woman, even when he didn’t want to, for that kind of stuff was adultry–all that, just to have an infant.

In those times, many men had a number of wives, and/or concubines. It was not uncommon.

Yucc? Dude, sex and being naked isn’t evil at all. Sex is sacred, our bodies are temples, yes, but in those temples we can create life with the help of God.

A woman’s body is a temple that can hold a child. Why would you not see something like that as perfect and holy and great?

And as has been said, most all married people, saints included, have had sex. Now, if it was so wrong, they’d all be sinning. And every child would be a product of sin-- their parents loving each other.

And infants, toddlers and children are not brats. They are worth the world to their parents. I don’t know of any parents that would not die for their child. And when I am wed, I will most certainly not think of any children my husband and I shall have as burdens.

God will provide, do not fear for He knows every hair on your head and all in your heart.

Apparently you were raised with strong influences that sex is bad. You’ve got to learn sooner or later that fornecation isn’t bad because it is sex, but rather because it isn’t. That’s the difference between intrinsically evil and extrinsically evil; fornecation is extrinsically evil because while the act itself is not wrong, the situation makes it wrong. I believe it was St. Paul that said that married couples should not deprive each other.

When sex is engaged in properly, it is the most beautiful and spiritual thing that a married couple can do. Without sex, you wouldn’t be here; none of us would. But if you really want to be celebate in marriage, there is nothing anyone can do to stop you; however, God gave humans sexual instincts and He did that on purpose.
