After reading about the pope’s visit to German, it seems to be pointing that peoe want an end to priestly celibacy, can this ever happen? And was that thecause of the sex abuse cases or was it other psychological problems?

Who cares what the people want? It is the Priests that matter. As far as the child abuse cases, clerical celibacy was NOT one of the factors in it. The child had a different father, to quote Martin Luther to Johann Tetzel.

I’ll never understand those who think not having a wife makes people want to have sex with teenaged boys.

Regarding whether priestly celibacy as a general norm will be changed, I seriously doubt it will happen any time soon, and somewhat more hesitantly doubt it will ever happen, but it is possible. I think if it did happen it would be a big mistake, but there is nothing in the Catholic faith that says the leaders of the Church cannot make mistakes in these kinds of disciplinary matters.

Not true. Such talk is strictly the creation of a sensational press, mostly written and edited by secularists and anti-catholics.
If a true, honest referendum of the faithful could be taken, you would find that they want to adhere to both dogma and tradition. So, no celibacy for priests, women priests, and pro-abortion nuns and Catholics are largely the creation of the mass media.

For the Nth time, priestly celibacy is a discipline, IT IS NOT DOGMA. It CAN be changed. Do not compare it to pro-abortion nuns or women priests which are both heresies. In fact, there are many married Catholic priest, both Eastern and Roman.

I totally agree with you. I actually don’t understand why many people think its a doctrine and not a discipline and they also don’t seem to know disciplines can be changed.

It is a discipline and also an Apostolic norm, which clarifies the goodness of priestly celibacy and the reason why the Church has such a high regard for it.

Could it happen? Yes.

Is it likely to happen? No.
And was that the cause of the sex abuse cases or was it other psychological problems?
I doubt it. What can happen though is that those so inclined will take advantage of a situation. The Church was lax, in terms of enforcement, in the past regarding this matter, allowing perverts to take advantage of the situation. This is no longer the case, so perverts will go elsewhere.

I’m not familiar with the event that much. What about it made you think he would move to end priestly celibacy?

Also, there were psychological problems associated with the sex abuse. Plenty of married teachers, scout troop leaders, and other professions around children have wound up with many incidents of abuse. Many of the offenders were married. Many had a predisposition that influenced them to gravitate toward professions near children. Celibacy is a non-factor.

Psychological perhaps. Satan is the creator of lie’s and problems. Forgive and lessen the burden of men.

Celibacy is a choice between those that remain in it and God alone.
