How does a layperson know if God is calling them to live a celibate life while living in the world? I have always been curious about this, but have found no decent sources or information.

There are many secular/lay Catholics who are celibate Some make private vows before their bishop or their spiritual director. Others do not make vows, but live a celibate life. Some live in communities such as Madonna House, the Knights of the Holy Eucharist, others live in the privacy of their homes. Some join secular orders.
You will have to discern this with your spiritual director.
