"Centering Prayer"

I have a friend who asked me what I thought about Fr. Thomas Keating and centering prayer. I looked on the website and have some doubts because it looks new agey to me. I had been involved in new age and eastern meditation and I for one want to stay far from this but I want to know if I am over reacting in this case. Can you help?
