Hello,

a woman is considering abortion, yet does not want to contact “pro-life” offices for some reason. I suggested the local Respect Life group of pregnancy care centers, pointing that they are not, strictly speaking, a “pro life office”, but rather “a not-for-profit organization offering information and assistance in a non-judgmental environment” in order to provide alternatives, or choices, other than abortion.

Is there any other way to help someone in this situation? Is anyone besides the Church (or Christian groups, in general) helping women struggling with a potentially unwanted pregnancy (in a way other than telling them to go get an abortion)?

Please advice. If you know specific groups in Florida, I’d appreciate PM. Thanks.

Birthright is a non-Catholic/non-Christian resource for pregnant women. Their motto is “we love them both” and they emphasize that they try to be very non-judgemental. You or your friend can call 800-550-4900.

God bless.

Thank you for caring enough to help this mother in pain.

Begin with prayer.

Please search for Crisis Pregnancy Centers, Pregnancy Resource Centers, Abortion Alternatives, your diocese Respect Life Office … they will be able to advice you on how to help this woman. Stay in contact with them, as you may need their help throughout her pregnancy.

She may think a pro-life group will “condemn her.”

I was just going to mention Birthright, I volunteered there for a while.
They provide non judgemental counselling, you can meet up with the volunteer for counselling or Birthright can set you up for a free counselling session with a professional, pregnancy tests, baby clothes, maternity clothes, adoption referrals, and contact information to physicians who respect life and are pro life.
It’s good to mention that if you call Birthright and they were to call you back, their number or name would not show so it’s very confidential.

Please let her seek help. I volunteered in Birthright and in my area not many came in 😦

Mother Mary, please help out this young pregnant woman and protect her unborn baby. Infant Jesus please look out for the innocent baby and help his/her mother find help.
Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

If you don’t mind me asking…
What is the situation she finds herself in? How old is she?
I don’t know how close you are as a friend, but you will be the best crisis center for her. Just depends how far you are willing to go in order to help.

Dear RC,
I too am a Birthright volunteer, but it doesn’t look like there are any Birthright centers in Florida. However you could call the 800 number, and they would be happy to talk to your friend if she is willing.
Also I googled crisis pregnancy centers in Florida and there are about 50 listed. Before you involve your friend with them, you might give them a call and check them out. You don’t want a place that will stick photos of abortions in her face; that’s why I like Birthright, we are very low key and supportive.
Ideally you will find one that offers Ultrasounds so she can see her baby, but you have to be a few months along for that.
Praying for your friend.

I want to thank you all for your kind advice, and the many more who, without commenting, offered their heartfelt prayers.

I am, in this case, a third party - so to speak - for I do not know the person directly. It was thus with great dismay that I was told this morning that the poor girl decided to take the abortion pills.

There is still a very slight bit of hope: I am told that one such pill does not suffice to cause the abortion, and that - if she repents and does not take the second pill, then the effects could be undone, God willing, through some medical treatment. It’s the smallest hope there could be, but in weakness the power of Christ is made perfect.

So please, join me in prayer once more, that God’s will be done. We truly need to ask with the full strength of our heart that God grant a special light to poor girls and women who find themselves going through such a crisis, for nothing causes greater pain to Our Lady and greater sorrow to the good Lord than the unshed tear of a dying unborn.

May God bless everyone of his children and deliver us from every evil through Christ, our Lord.
