As far as I know, there aren’t any detailed fixed ceremonies. So what are the Stations like in your parish?

Our parish uses little booklets that have a 1965 copyright. I’m not sure when the parish was founded, but these might well be original equipment…

Anyway, last year our pastor would go from station to station around the church, announcing the station, reading “his” part, allowing a minute for silence and then reading the response along with us. He would kneel at the appropriate parts with something that was a cross between a catcher’s squat and a genuflection. Bad knees; tile floor.

This year, new pastor, a bit older, bad knees, tile floor… He stood in the front where he stands for Mass. He announced the stations, read his part, led us in our part and sat during the kneeling parts and bowed during the genuflecting parts. A little less silence, but since he was originally not planning to have the Way of the Cross at all this year (full time job with the diocese in addition to pastor), I’m not complaining.

Same 1965 booklets. Last year, I thought they were a little dated and someone really should see about getting some new ones. But this year, I’m kind of fond of them, funny smell and all. The prayers really are beautiful in their own right.

Different every week. I really don’t like some of them. My roommate went to the one led by members of the parish social ministry last year and refused to ever go back.

Father (in some really cool vestments BTW) with 2 or 3 servers leads.

We all have booklets.

The congregation is in the pews. Servers stand directly beneath each station, Fr is in the Center isle facing each station.

Fr announces each station, we all genuflect and say “Because by your Holy Cross, you have redeemed the world.”

As we all stand, Fr does a meditation on the Station, then we all kneel and recite a scriptural prayer together.

We stand again, and sing one stanza from an English version of the Sabat Mater (forgive me if I butcher the spelling) as Fr and the servers move to the next station.

Takes just about an hour.

We have one Presider (Priest or Deacon) and two servers -

Process with Cross to the Sanctuary

We start with the exposition of the Host with incensing of the Host and altar.

Presider and one server with the Cross then start with the Opening Prayer for the Way of the Cross in front of the altar then go on to each of the stations in turn - we use a booklet very similar to the last post.

2nd server remains kneeling in front of the altar and the Real Presence throughout.

After the Way the Presider and server return to the Sanctuary -
Incensing of the Host and altar again
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament with bells
Reposition with Divine Praises
Recessional

All with organ music and a few appropriate hymns.

Takes about 45 minutes -
I think it is very solemn and very spiritual and we get a pretty good turnout.

Yours,
David

Same here, except two servers with candles process with Fr. along with the crucifix. We sit at the eigth station, so we always wait around after reposition( The Blessed Sacrament is returned to the Adoratin Chapel) to smell the incense, it takes awhile for it to get to us. We also recite the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy right before stations. We also get a good turnout.
