I was wondering… is the “Catholics for Free-choice” organization a legitimate Catholic group? I don’t understand most of what they believe in (or why they even exist)- could someone clear up the CFC for me?

No. They are not.

They are a group of people who are pro-abortion and advocate politically for the acceptance and legality of abortion.

They use the title “Catholic” in their name in an attempt to scandalize the faithful and confuse people.

No, it’s just a paper organization.

oh! at first read, I though its about “Couples For Christ”…

and oh, what have our Bishops done to obstruct this “free Choice” group?

Can anyone cite me to any place wherein there is proof that these people are not Catholic and are just on paper? whatever that means. Does anyone have any real evidence about this group?

That’s precisely my point. Who the heck do these people think they are?

Here, scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2a5.htm

When you formally\publically reject what the Catholic Church teaches you are rejecting the Catholic faith. Anyone can call themselves Catholic but if they are rejecting it at the same time they are just paying lip service to the Catholic Church to use the name and fight against it.

If you look closely at their beliefs they elevate money above human life. This is akin to saying that we must kill children if we cannot afford them, this is what they publically advocate, which is contrary to the Christian faith and places comfort\selfishness above human life.

It’s not hard to find.

You can go to guide star dot org to view their 990 and other financial statements. The board of directors includes people like Kate Michelman-- former head of NARAL-- and their current executive VP is a former head of programs at International Planned Parenthood.

Yes, the research has been done on who funds them. They are funded largely by foundations such as Buffet, Rockefeller, Ford, Packard, et al.

American Life League has done the research.

The are political activists who strive to promote legal abortion worldwide. They are rabidly anti-Catholic.

They use Catholic in their title to give themselves some sort of air of credibility in religious circles. It is an attempt to undermine Catholic teaching and confuse the unaware.

And, they have a $3 million dollar annual budget to spew their filth worldwide.

I think they view Catholicism more as a tradition than as a religion. What ********!

this is horrible…

Well if that were the case the Church would be about 1/4 of itself. I certainly have learned that that is the way some Catholic’s view things though. Interestly, these same folks can have their pet issues wherein they claim the Church is not conservative enough, and that’s not rejecting Church teaching to them…

They elevate money over human life? Do they have some monetary interest in what they pursue? Can you please document this?

God Bless

Your first cite is the the CCC. I have no idea why. and your second is to CFC and there is nothing there that supports your conclusion that they promote abortion and abortion for their own monetary gain. Please give documentation.

**And where in this do you determine they are not Catholics? **

I guess I’m still confused. How does what you have written prove they are but a “paper” organization. I still have no idea what that means. And how does that establish they arent’ Catholics?

I’ve read your link. I don’t know anything bout this group and will have to do some research before I can determine whether their condemnation can be taken at face value. Thanks.

I did not say they were a “paper” organization.

I stated that they are a political action organization funded by major pro-abortion groups.
And how does that establish they arent’ Catholics?
Because the USCCB states, “Catholics for a Free Choice merits no recognition or support as a Catholic organization”

They have been formally excommunicated by Bishop Bruskewitz of Nebraska, and their obstinate, public rejection of the doctrines of the Catholic faith incur latae sententiae excommunication.

Well, you do that.

Here’s their website. And here is their statement of belief:

CFFC believes in and works toward the following principles:
  • The right of individuals and couples to decide on when, whether and how they will form families;
  • Women’s and men’s moral agency in reproductive health decisions, supported by access to the full range of contraceptive choices, safe and legal abortion, pre- and post-natal care and family supports;
  • Support and respect, including treatment, prevention, and especially access to condoms, for people living with HIV/AIDS and those at risk;
  • Social and economic justice that ensures that no one is denied sexual or reproductive health services because they cannot afford them;
  • Equality for and non-discrimination against women in government, civil society, and all faith groups;
  • Scientific and public policies that are determined by evidence-based research, democratic structures, and the common good;
  • The right of faith groups to participate in public policy formation and the responsibility of policy makers to legislate without privileging sectarian religious beliefs;
  • Freedom from all forms of intimate violence, including sexual abuse in the family, relationships, and the church;
  • Respect for and recognition of gay, lesbian, bi and transgendered persons and relationships with all legal rights;

You might want to take a look at these sites:

pfaw.org/pfaw/general/default.aspx?oid=3792
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Life_League
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholics_for_a_Free_Choice

It seems there is some question about the ALL. I’m not sure one can rely on their rhetoric.
PFAW? You’re kidding me. That’s the pot calling the kettle black

Whether you rely on American Life League or not is irrelevant. You can research CFFC at their own website, you can research donation through the various charitable giving websites, and you can read at the USCCB website the Bishops’ condemnation of this group.

They are NOT a Catholic organization. They are a pro-abortion organization.
