After confession I found a stack of photocopied Novenas to St. Jude. I took one as I knew I could just tick off days right on the paper. Later, when I had time to look it over, I noticed it said to make “81” copies and place 9 copies each day in your church. “Prayer will be answered on or before the 9th day. It has never been known to fail”

I am just wondering if I should have thrown them all into the trash? But this particular “chain prayer” might not be sinful, just annoying. Thoughts?

Sounds pretty superstitious to me. I probable would gathered them up and given it to the pastor. No problem using it to mark off the days of a Novena, if that makes it easier for you; believing that if you say X prayers and are granted something, well that’s a problem.

That’s what I thought, and it also said that it had to be read six times a day. I never heard of that either for a novena.

There are legitimate devotions that will have you say a certain prayer multiple times a day.

But once you see conditions such as you must print and distribute a certain number of copies, you should be suspicious.

Sounds like it was placed there by someone who owns stock in a printer paper manufacturer. Having access to a xerox machine is never a valid condition of having a prayer answered.

As Stevie Wonder once said, “very superstitious.”
