It was more than a “gesture” as the Patriarch has been there and done that before. It is the norm for what it means to be Christian in our world. The good Patriarch is simply living the Gospel. Something like this should not be so unusual as to be thought newsworthy.

yes it was the Christian thing to do and it was a nice gesture that he did it rather than not.
