Update:

I am formulating answers and information to address the listing of 62 Alleged errors of Catholicism, that was originated by anti-Catholic James McCarthy.

Since this tract hasn’t been answered directly (with the exception of Gary Michuta’s response to “The Gospel According to Rome”–with, “The Gospel According to James McCarthy”–which probably addresses all of these accusations within his book)-- I felt the compulsion to do so. It may not be the best effort (having to individually respond to such high volume of misconceptions/accusations), but I am making the attempt. Hopefully, when Gary Michuta has some time, he will make a counter-response to this particular tract.

My web page(s) response, as mentioned, uses a variety of links (to articles and debates by professional apologists), definitions, quotes, and whatever else I could find to help illuminate.

If anyone wants to add anything, please let me know.

First, you must pray for him - that the Holy Spirit illumine his heart. You will have no success without prayer first.

GregoryL was right: this man has no interest in seeking the truth. He has simply found bitterness and deception that he agrees with. The demon sows the seeds of division, while the Holy Spirit always leads to unity. Obviously, neither he nor his sources have any authority to interpret the bible. Have him explain this:

2 Peter 1:20 (King James Version) “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”

Also, if he is a Baptist, he likely does not believe that baptism has any effect on the soul. Have him explain what Peter meant:

1 Peter 3:20-21 (King James Version) "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

And Paul:

Acts 22:16 (King James Version) And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

The demon specializes in shotgun style attacks, using numerous (62 for example) errors. Try to get this man to focus on one or two - always bringing him back to those when he wanders. Don’t expect him to huff and puff too long. He will probably cut off communication, since he cannot refute the truth. In the end, remember that nothing that Saint Monica said to Augustine had any effect. Her years of prayer are what turned his heart.

Christ’s peace.

I’m going to try a somewhat more detailed response to those 62 questions.
After reading over them, I think it won’t be all that hard to do. :coffeeread:

I’m not sure how long it’ll take…

I’m taking summer school at the moment and the final is tomorrow, so I won’t get started until probably the weekend.

I’d love it if you would, when you have time.

In my humble opinion, due to McCarthy’s popularity as an author, and the fact that this tract is sold in mainstream christian bookstores, it should be addressed.

I was actually in contact with Catholic apologist and author, Gary Michuta, about whether or not he has ever done an apologia on this particular tract. He wrote that probably most of the objections are contained within his book, “The Gospel According to James McCarthy”. He said that, with all of his work lined up, that he probably wouldn’t be able to address this particular one, as of yet (though he believes that the chart is unfairly presented and should be a listing of ‘what the Catholic Church ‘actually’ teaches’ versus James McCarthy’s Baptist tradition on the other side.

I would appreciate any help with the listing (perhaps a better formatting, too). I just cannot maintain the amount of material I used for the first objection, with all of them (62 is going to take up a LOT of web pages). So I’d like any help I can get to do so, without volumes of information (cutting as straight to the point as possible without missing anything pertinent).

Hope you have very good success on your final!👍
