because the bible is very open to interpretation.

Rinnie:

I can see by the date of your post that you have people stumped!

You have me stumped as well.

I honestly don’t know how you could accept the Bible and not accept the Church.

See thats what i dont understand. How can people say that they disagree with the catholic religion but believe in the catholic church.

Rinnie:

Please be more specific. About what doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church are you speaking of Bible believers not believing?

🤷

It would also depend on what “version” of the Bible you were reading. It is well known that many versions are out there, that were modified specifically to oppose the Catholic Church.

Ok lets start here. Im ASKING, OK, really this is a question i am asking myself too. Let go the the Apsotles Creed. Now does every Bible agree with that. Again i am asking.

Sorry, guess I wasn’t clear in my answer.

The answer lies in the fact that multiple denominations and peoples have re-written or re-interpreted the original Bible to suit their own agenda of defying the Catholic Church.

So, what Bible you are reading would make a difference as to whether you believed in the True Church or not.

Make sense?

A little bit, But please beer with me and i mean beer with me you will probally need one to get this one through my thick head. Lets start with protestants, okay as a kid i was always teased you Catholics. lets start there. Do they believe in the Catholic church.

Absolutely. Earlier today, I commented on another thread, that while I believe in the Catholic Church, I sometimes disagree with some of the teachings of the Church.

However, I accept that the failure to believe fully is MINE ALONE, not that of the Church. In addition, simply disagreeing with one teaching or another does not cause me to leave and go “church shopping”.

One of the greatest overlooked issues in modern religion, is that we need to hear what we NEED to hear (or read) as opposed to what we think we WANT to hear or read.

Almost anything you read in a Bible, can be interpreted to mean whatever you want it to, depending on your state of mind.

the catholic church is the church universal (small c). The Catholic Church (capital C) is the Popes church

Rinnie,
There are many levels of belief.
If you ask me do you believe in the catholic church (as in does it exist) I will answer yes.
If you ask me if I believe in the Catholic Church (as in do I believe in the teachings etc.) The answer may be different.

As to the origional question, this also has many levels.
Protestant denominations today may or may not recognize their own roots. That is, they may simply go to the Bible and not delve into where and how their Bible came to be. These are just living in a sort of virtual-reality world where the Bible just “dropped from the sky”.

Those who do recognize and acknowledge how the Bible came to be will point to the belief that the Church got off track at some point. These may have some foundation for thier concern since at various times in history the Church excersized more than a little temporal-political power and suffered some of the corrupting effects of that power.
These denominations feel that they are reclaiming what the Church was or they believe it to be in it’s early days.

These descriptions are, of course, crude and various denominations and sects differ, but it should give you some idea,

Peace
James

where does it say that there are 2 catholic churches in the bible. One universal and the other the popes. Please no disrespect just asking.

okay here is what hit me today. In church we say the Nicene Creed. Now my husband used to be protestant. I asked him if they every said the Apostles Creed. He said yes he believes they have. I said ok then how can you say that you believe in the catholic church but be opposed to the Catholic Bible. He said i dont know. Now if you are Roman Catholic you go by the pope correct. That is the church I go to. Now if you go to another catholic church but it isnt roman you are ruled by the bishop. Is that correct. Please no disrespect to anyone i am learning. But all in the nut shell a catholic church still goes by the catholic bible am i correct. Now if the protestant religion believes in the catholic church why is it called the protestant church.

rinnie:

perhaps this may help…

“Catholic church” is often used to refer to the RC church, whereas, “catholic church” describes the universal body of believers in Jesus (the Messiah)/ Son of G-d. The small “catholic” literally means “universal” - not just RC or any one particular sect, denomination, or whatever.

Therefore, when ppl recite the Apostles’ Creed, they are referring to the universal church (body of believers throughout history) vs. the RC church. So they can say this creed and not have a conflict with their beliefs.

Does that help?

Because catholics dogmas must be read into scripture because they can’t be read from scripture.
