As a pro-lifer, I have become less ignorant about the companies that continue to fund planned parenthood and its very liberal agenda. Thanks to Life Decisions International www.fightpp.org, I started out slowly boycotting a few companies and continue to boycott as many as possible. I just started doing this one year ago and I have been very pleased with our progress as a family. However, when we talk to the different ministries at our local parish, we have had a lukewarm response. Nobody wants to make changes. When I discuss it with them, the pro-lifers all agree we need to do something, but nothing happens?
In our own diocese, different ministries continue to book hotels at Marriott, allow the Girl Scouts access to catholic schools and parishes, teen programs go to Disney for their night of Joy, etc.
I am planning to send a letter to my local bishop and I’m hopeful that he will respond. As a pro-lifer, have you had a similar experience?
🤷

I wasn’t aware that girl scouts fund Planned Parenthood.
It depends on the council. Some GS councils have been holding “girl power” events jointly with PP and allowing PP to give presentations to the girls. Other coucils have no relationship with PP. You have to check the local situation.

Is this a legitimate group? They charge for the list rather than just having it as a PDF on their site. I’m not sure that their reasoning (stating that abortion groups were bankrupting them) is valid, since they don’t have to mail the list, just have it available.

I know that other groups, like the one that organized a boycott against Glenn Beck, simply maintain a website that lists the groups they’re targeting for boycott.

Not saying anyone should boycott Glenn Beck (or not boycott him, that’s not the point), but the cost of the list seems high to me.

Have you offered alternatives that are pro-life in nature when you want people to boycott a company? You have to pick and choose your battles and you have to understand not everyone is going to be called to boycott to the degree than you personally may find acceptable. For example, a few years back Pampered Chef was a huge fundraiser at our parish and when I complained at the time, I offered a local company’s products to use as a fundraiser and the people in charge accepted the change. You have to give them a concrete example sometimes to get people to make the switch.

The girl scouts at my daughter’s former school was one area that people would not budge. So my daughter left the troop. Boycotting companies is voluntary, not a requirement and we can not force everyone to feel they must boycott the same companies we feel we need to. You have to accept that you’re not always going to get everyone on the same page. People will continue to resist if they feel you are imposing your own agenda onto their decisions.

Thank you for the great tip! Yes, I will include alternatives that are pro-life in my letter. Great Idea!👍

PatriceA, please educate me on pampered chef. I don’t have them in my boycott list.

They wouldn’t be on the list anymore. They stopped giving funding to PP a few years ago because of public pressure.

According to LDI, without funding they could not continue to fight planned parenthood. Here is their explanation fightpp.org/show.cfm?page=gift

Based on prior threads discussing LDI’s list, there seem to be legitimate questions regarding how they determine whether a corporation or business in fact “supports” PP. There seem to be many instances where a corporation appears on the list because they offer a “matching gift” program to their employees, which under IRS regulations can’t discriminate among recipients chosen by the employees. There are also versions of the list in circulation that are very out-of-date.

The list gets updated every year as some corporations stop funding PP due to boycott efforts. For example, Toys R Us and Target used to be on the list, but not anymore.

I forgot to mention, I also use the American Life League list of charitable organizations and it helps to also determine who is pro-life as well! This is free and available via web:
