YET ANOTHER ant and grasshopper story.

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The ant works for a corporation that has excellent company benefits. He never worries about health care costs for himself or his family.

The grasshopper works hard in the heat as well, running a family business he inherited from his father, tilling flowers as a private contractor. But one day he falls off of a flower and breaks his leg in a severe fashion.

The grasshopper’s medical bills pile up.

The grasshopper’s insurance company finds a mistake the grasshopper made when he applied for a health insurance policy 10 years ago. It appears the grasshopper did not mention that he had broken a toe 12 years ago.
The grasshopper’s insurance company through rescission tells the grasshopper that he has a pre-existing condition and that none of his current medical bills are covered. (as absurd as an example as that is, this sort of thing really happens!)

Now the grasshopper wonders what to do… the bills are piling up, he’s missed work so money is not coming in, and during all of this he is in pain.

Meanwhile the ant is laid off by the corporation, which downsizes in the rough economy. The ant can’t afford private health insurance and his mortgage at the same time so he goes for a bit without health insurance, certain he can find work quickly at another corporation. While looking for another job the ant feels faint and goes to the ER, where he is told that he has had a heart attack. The ant ends up in the hospital, and without health insurance the cost for his treatment is well over 200k. In addition, he will require medication for the rest of his life, and is told to ‘take it easy - no more working in the withering heat’. How could this happen to him, after all of his careful planning and hard work?
Wow, your are realy "pest"imistic. 😃

Sorry, but you are again trying to portray the extremely rare worse case scenario as a norm.

It’s taking a norm and making it a little stronger to illistrate what he is says without any question as to what he is saying. Those things go on every day.

You should have mentioned that the grasshopper fell because when he broke that toe, they had to amputate that toe and 3 others on that same foot. He ended up falling off the flower because his gangrene that was in those 4 toes spread to his leg and the leg it collapsed. The grasshopper didn’t have insurance then and now it is considered a pre-existing condition. (Pre-existing conditions only come into play if you didn’t have insurance during the condition.)

You also forgot to mention that an injury at work would be covered by workers comp, not health insurance. In fact, if you fall out of your car, that is covered by your auto insurance, not health insurance.

I challenge you to find someone that was refused any coverage because of a broken toe.

I have worked with many insurance companies. I worked for a third party administrator.

I have never heard of anyone being refused for something that isn’t directly related to a condition that wasn’t insured before. Untreated high blood pressure/heat attack, migraine headaches/brain tumor, emphysema/lung cancer.

today on the news. they reported that the congressional budget office said only 2% of Americans would actually use a “public option”. That includes all of the possible causes of not paying for your own health care meaning those who are the victims of this mass comspiracy to keep them from getting coverage must represent less than 2%. Now given that I have never met anyone who was dropped from their insurance because of a pre existing condition but met many who just choose easier lifestyles that resulted in their not affording insurance (real people not statistics) I’d have tosay that those that are victims of this immaginary conspiracy are a very small percentage of that 2%.

Actually my greatgrandmother got dropped for recurring lymphoma. Yes it was worth it to treat her! If she wasn’t treated she likely wouldn’t have lived to attend my wedding.

What was the pre-existing condition?

I have had

Appendicitis
Gall stones
Kidney stones
Pneumonia
Fibromyalgia

denied because of my transsexual/intersex status. I have been unable to find any link between any of those and it, yet it was why it was denied.

Denied coverage for everything? You have insurance, but you have been denied coverage for everything?

See, I am talking about people that have insurance, like the grasshopper, but are denied coverage because of a preexisting condition.

And intersexuality has nothing to do with being transsexual, at least in the common description. Instersexuality is being born with (preexisting) a sex/gender that cannot be determined. (About 0.1% to 0.2% of births) That is a preexisting condition. Many require surgery and extensive therapy. A transsexual chooses to live/dress and eventually have surgery to change his/her genitals.

When I had insurance in the past, that is why they were denied.

No they have nothing to do with each other, but they are also not exclusive. I had surgery as a child and I rejected the assignment they gave me, once I was an adult I switched to the other role, this makes me a transsexual as well.

THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER

This one is a little different…
Two Different Versions! … Two Different Morals!

OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself

.
That ignores all the people who’ve recently lost their jobs through no fault of their own, who worked but the spare income was spent paying off a mortgage.

I guess the moral is… save, and go flatting instead?

Did she have insurance when she got it AND did she maintain insurance at all times afterward?
Yes, and soon got something medicare related afterwords. Not to mention she got tired of getting lymphoma time after time.

There is unemployment insurance for those who loose a job to hold them over till they find a new one. If you blow all of thour income on your mortgaget hen it was your fault for buying a better house than you can afford.
