I’m an Eastern Catholic but I live in the States. I’m thinking of becoming a Sister but they told me that I need a change of right. Why is that? Aren’t Roman Catholicism and Eastern Catholicism are the same? I mean we do follow the Roman Catholic Church and the Pope.

Does anyone know what does changing a right require?

Thank you.

There are several congregations of religious sisters in various Eastern & Oriental Churches. One or more may be of your own Church.

Now, that said, if the intent is to join a strictly Latin congregation of sisters, an internet forum is hardly the place to get details. I think it would behoove you to speak with the superior or at least the Mistress of Novices (if they’re still called by that title) as to what is and is not required.

One of the sisters in my home parish (Missionaries of Charity) came from the Greek Catholic Church. Her father was even a Priest and I believe some of her others sisters also became Sisters. We also had a Greek Catholic Priest coming to say the Liturgy every now and then.

I have also met sisters from the Oriental Churches in that very same order, so maybe it differs between different congregations. Maybe your Church has its own convents? That way you would not have to live a Latin spirituality.

Good luck on your journey! :byzsoc:

You did not say which eastern Catholic church you are of. There are Sisters of the Order of St. Basil The Great. This is in the United States.

Nobody can induce you to change ritual Church, according to the canon law.
