Welcome, new player @Heartorque! The essential rule of this game is to change one letter (see Post #4), so treasury doesn’t follow from depository (changed too many letters).

Welcome also @abucs! Well played, but we need to go back and continue from depository.

Dead ends do happen. The most recent that I can find, and the deepest that I recall, began with unlight (post 309), though we didn’t recognize it at the time. Later that day, we could not get past frightfully (post 316), so we backed up one post to rightfully. The next day we got stuck again, on lightbulb (post 329). After struggling for 3 days with lightbulb, we gave up and went all the way back to post 308 (sunlight).

[Edited to insert hyperlink.] You were quicker than me. I was searching for the last dead end at the same time. I found another thing that may be of interest to @ratio1. We’ve been wondering about the rights and wrongs of using online dictionaries and other aids. New players may care to take a look at posts #458-466 on this thread and tell us what you all think about the question…

@RandomAlias, how did you do the hyperlink (if that’s the correct term for the blue-letter thing) for the post number? I tried to do the same thing just now but the secret eludes me.

I’ll respect whatever you guys decide. I must say though I probably won’t play if these are banned. For me even using the aids it’s still pretty hard for me. If I’m not allowed to use them I don’t think I can do this at all.
 
Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it soon enough. We all find it tricky at first.

I am not sure if you are asking how to make a hyperlink, or how to get the URL of a post. I’ll answer both questions.

In the message editor, the hyperlink tool looks like (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.). Here’s how it works:
  1. Copy the desired URL to the copy/paste buffer (clipboard).
  2. In the post editor, put the cursor where you want the link to appear.
  3. Click on the hyperlink tool. Then a box appears in which you can paste the URL, optionally enter the text as you want the link to appear, and finally click OK.
If you do not provide the link text, the URL is sometimes rendered verbatim. Other times, the system will expand the link into a box showing the content.

To obtain the URL of a post, click on the date or time that is shown in the upper right of the post. A box should then appear, showing the URL, the post number, the full time and date of the post, and some other options. From there, you can copy the post’s unique URL.

Note that the post number shown in the URL is not always the same as that shown in the thread slider control (that vertical scroll thingy to the right of the posts). I believe the difference has to do with deleted posts.
