Changes to weekday Mass

The priest invited everyone up to the altar during the Eucharistic Prayer. Only about half went up to the altar; the rest of us just stayed in our seats. It was confusing to say the least. Is this permitted during Mass? The priest did say we shouldn’t feel like we have to come up and that he would be doing this type of Mass on this particular weekday from now on. This particular priest is new to the Diocese and spent several years in Australia. Do you think this is something he brought with him from Australia?

No, it is not permitted.

Not necessarily. I have seen this abuse in the US several times.

simply talk to this priest privately after Mass, ask him if he intends to break the rules in the GIRM as a regular practice, so that you can move to another parish if that is his intention. you may then inform his bishop.
