Be nice to even have the oppertunity to be able to have a mind change
phil, women have to take a stand for each other against this toxic attitude that a man can *demand *sex as his right. The demands and rights are the antitheses of Catholic conjugal love when they are not mutually appreciated.Be nice to even have the oppertunity to be able to have a mind change![]()
I apologise if my comment was misinterpreted,I was trying to be vaguely humorous ,phil, women have to take a stand for each other against this toxic attitude that a man can *demand *sex as his right. The demands and rights are the antitheses of Catholic conjugal love when they are not mutually appreciated.
May God have mercy on my soul

Unless one of the characteristics Vico mentioned was happening, what the OP did was cruel. Even if one was happening, she should not have consented in the first place.Yet such circumstances are not in evidence in the OP’s Circumstances. Obstinance is not in evidence. Refusal to support a marriage financially is a hypothetical created by you, but not relevant to this thread.
I have married friends too . My friends are fortunate not to feel the need to resort to demands.
I like to think young… in my 30’sHold on? Your dad’s friends are of the video game generation. How old are you??
Yes. Yes. No. I’m blessed that my wife understand the value of conjugal relations, even when not feeling up to it. We had the conversation before we married. I give her what she needs in the marital act even when I am exhausted or stressed, and she reciprocates even when not feeling up to it. I’m a lucky man. Also, you are saying that if the mutual exchange of conjugal relations is not amicable, that the parties can ‘demand’ their sexual satisfaction from the spouse? Are you married? Is this how you resolve your need for sexual satisfaction??
As I stated, mutual is always the ideal. Also, as I already stated, there is a time when a spouse is doing serious damage to a marriage by obstinately refusing sex. It goes against the clear teaching of St. Paul, and a spouse has a right to demand their marital rights in these circumstances. My guess is that you are motivated in your opinion by detached idealism without a real experience of the marriage relationship. Hopefully readers will detect this anomaly and not think this is a true Catholic approach.
1 Corinthians 2-5
But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. 5 Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Just curious, what is the video game generation, considering the history of video games?Hold on? Your dad’s friends are of the video game generation. How old are you??..
I remember everything I said, I was responding to what you said. No need to get rude! God Bless, memawNot sure why you feel the need to reply twice to this post; maybe you forgot that you did. Anyway, posts #22 and #23 addressed this and it doesn’t need to be rehashed.
There is a time to call the police too, but that also is not relevant to the curcumstances in this thread.Unless one of the characteristics Vico mentioned was happening, what the OP did was cruel. Even if one was happening, she should not have consented in the first place.
My clear point in the financial hypothetical was to show there are times a spouse has the right to demand the other spouse lives up to his or her marital obligations when their actions or inaction is seriously damaging it. Sex is no different.
I was pointing out that you responded twice (post #22 and #42) to the same post of mine (#21). I don’t see how I am being rude, but I’m sorry if you took it that way.I remember everything I said, I was responding to what you said. No need to get rude! God Bless, memaw
The OP did not state whether it was one or both who decided to stop. It may be that they mutually agreed to stop, in which case there’s nothing cruel about that.Unless one of the characteristics Vico mentioned was happening, what the OP did was cruel. Even if one was happening, she should not have consented in the first place.
Yes, I completely agree regarding the overall principle. The marriage debt is a well established principle for Catholic spouses and to be respected by both spouses. The specifics of applying it can be less clear, as this discussions shows. My clear point in the financial hypothetical was to show there are times a spouse has the right to demand the other spouse lives up to his or her marital obligations when their actions or inaction is seriously damaging it. Sex is no different.
SOOOOO, guess I’m just not a 'straight thinking ’ Catholic. God Bless, MemawI was pointing out that you responded twice (post #22 and #42) to the same post of mine (#21). I don’t see how I am being rude, but I’m sorry if you took it that way.
