I have a 4yr old and a 6yr old girl. They both have been Baptised Chatholic and both have the same God Father but, they have diffrent God Mothers. Both God Mothers are my sisters. I have come to realise that I have chosen the wrong God Mothers for both of my Children Is it possible to Change There God Mothers even if it has been 6yrs and 4yrs since I picked there God Mothers out?
The reasson I want to change my childrens God Mothers is because a god Parent in my oppinion is; someone who will continue the Catholic faith with my children if something should ever happen to me, and also to help them remeber the good about me. Both my childrens God mothers no longer want anything to do with me. So I believe that if they don’t want anything to do with me then if something was to happen to me that they wouldn’t have anything good to say to help my children to remeber me.
I guess what I am asking is can my childrens God Mothers be changed? Am I right or wrong for doing so?

Please Help me this is very hard for me to even have to think about this.

My understanding is that there is a spiritual relationship that cannot be revoked. However, you can always ask another person to be responsible for your daughters.

I didn’t choose well for my first four. I had it in my head that I should choose family members. For the last two, we asked close friends who are very devout Catholics. I know that they will pray and look out for their Godchildren.

I’ve told my older kids that they have a reverse mission in their lives. The kids are suppose to pray for their God parents!! My daughter takes this seriously. The boys are, well, more concerned with gameboys. I’m sure they will come around.

I’ve asked two friends, in the event I die prematurely, to make sure that my kids get to Mass weekly. My dh isn’t Catholic. Also, I’ve asked my parents to help my dh to send them to Catholic school. I also purchased some life insurance for this purpose. We currently homeschool. In the meantime, I’m trying to fill their lives with the love of God and Catholic culture.

You might ask the guardian angels of your sisters to pray for your children too. They know that there is a spiritual connections.

Actually you can change a godparent. It just has to be recorded in the book at the parish of record.

No you can’t. I’m an RCIA sponsor and my priest was just talking about this the other night in RCIA. People sometimes attempt to have their childrens’ godparents changed, but it can’t be done. The godparent was the person who was the godparent at the baptism–period. It can’t be changed.
