Thanks ,it will be interesting to see what measures they take…and how it will affect pet ownership as well.

Unfortunately, ultra-tropical plants like mangosteen, durian and rambutan won’t survive anywhere in the U.S. I do have a jackfruit tree planted on that hill. Beside planting tropical fruit trees, I also have an ensemble of different varieties of citrus, apple, blueberry, Asian pear, persimmon, avocado, etc., planted in the upper part of the backyard. My house is sitting on a 0.35 acre lot which is pretty big for Southern California.

My wife has been doing a good job taking care of my orchard while I am away. That pix was taken after the winter months of southern California when we had a week of near freezing temperatures.

This red fruit is called a miracle fruit. It turns everything sour into sweet. It’s pretty cool.

Since moving back to Southern California, I started to develope an interest in tropical fruit forest/orchard. I have planted a ton of different tropical fruits that can grow in S. Cali like mango, atemoya, sapodilla, etc., on my property. I still have land for more trees. I will plant more trees when I get home.
I grew up in southern California (Los Angeles and Orange Counties) and there were citrus and avocado trees in everyone’s yards… except ours. My parents hated nature.

I love the things I can grow here in Colorado, as well as the definite seasons. But oh, how I miss the orange trees, the lime trees, the lemons, the avocados!!! 😋

And don’t forget the strawberries the size of your fist!!!

Oh my goodness, what’s for breakfast?

Well that is not my landscape. That is a stock photo of the petunia hybrid I have planted this year. Right now I have a beautiful weed garden going. 🤣

I will take some snaps when they come into full bloom. It is called a Supertunia and do they ever grow fast and are in a constant bloom. I have four planted now and they are growing like mad and in bloom now, but are still small. No dead heading either which is nice.

What is a good color that goes with that type of pink? Yellow maybe?

I like orange and pink together in floral pots or that lovely lime green color.Potato vines are a great plant for pots.Vibrant and easy to grow and they make almost any flower pop!

Very nice.I just picked some purple cosmos and feverfew flowers for Our Lady.
I’m thinking to dig up a red flowering hibiscus I planted (discount price cause it was sickly) and put it in a large pot for Winter so the frosts don’t kill it.I’m sort of getting into pot plants more ,having them on the veranda.
Even just small leafed Ivey and very gated Perriwinkle look good in a pot and are hard to kill…my kind of pot plant 😅

I grew up in Hawaii and I also remember the bananas, mangoes, coconuts and avocados 🥑 growing in the back yard. Not to mention dragon fruit, guavas, and lychees. Not to mention oranges 🍊 so sweet it was like drinking honey 🍯 .

Along with all the vegetables 🌶️ 🌽 🍅.

A feast I tell you.

Everything sounds so wonderful, people! I currently have a yard full of five foot weeds and dead grass. I dumped a whole bunch of weed killer on the weeds 2 weeks ago and turned the sprinklers off. Things are starting to die off so I’m making progress. I’m hoping to put in a fake lawn after things are good and dead and cleared away.

I bought some mulch today in an attempt to add some organic material to my planting beds.

I think some big yellow daisy-type flowers would look lovely mixed in. And maybe some spiky aloe or something, and then some lacy trailing fern type leaves. I love gardens. ❤️ my lemon mint is coming back. I also planted some stevia last year, which was really fun. And of course, I love the dill and basil. Tons and tons. I have two woody stalks of okra which I’m hoping will come back in a healthy way. We planted our yard-long beans along the pool fence (cross fingers).

I’m tad, but in the desert here our soil is very alkaline. We also have caliche which is a hard, impermeable layer of calcium carbonate that lies a few inches to a few feet under ground. The heat accelerates and my landscape produces little compostable material on it’s own, so I’m sure my poor neglected raised beds would be grateful for some organic material

My wife brought home a basil plant the other day That’s one edible I’ll plant that can survive the sun and heat. .

Sounds like you do well with what you’ve got though…do you have hot strong winds in Summer?
It’s listed as kind of Mediterranean weather here where I live,I’m able to grow berries quite well but there have been some years a hot north wind with cook them on the canes and the leaves as well.I use a lot of shade cloth just for wind breaks.
