Changing the Reading at Mass

At Mass on Palm Sunday, members of the choir sang the Passion, which was a little odd to start with. But they sang the Passion from John, rather than Luke!

Is there any flexibility on this point, or was this an abuse??

The Passion is to read by the Narrator, the Speaker and the Priest. There is no singing by the choir. Yes, this is an abuse.
 
The Passion from John’s Gospel is read on Good Friday. If you went to a TLM on Palm Sunday, the Passion would have been from Matthew’s Gospel. In the Novus Ordo, the Passion is from Matthew, Mark or Luke depending on what liturgical year. John’s Gospel is never read on Palm Sunday in Novus Ordo or TLM.
 
Well it sure was in my parish. Can anyone point to a document I can show to our liturgist or priest on this point?
 
I think the choir can sing the Passion as long as a priest or deacon sings Christ’s parts. That is, the choir replaces the lectors.

However, I think it must be the proper Passion for that day, and the approved translation - not an adaptation.
 
Last Sunday (Palm Sunday) the priest read the narrator, and someone from the laity read Jesus parts. This is the first year it was done this way…I was under the impression, that only the priest can read Jesus’s part. Am I correct?
