Hello dear brothers and sisters –

I have a question dear to my soul for you.

For the past year or so, I have been receiving some inspiration that is not my own. I don’t know if it’s my soul, it’s an entity, or the holy spirit. I have two notebooks worth of notes and I receive them when I go into quiet prayer and meditation. I receive these ideas after I say the rosary.

The material is always loving and has often times described Jesus and His loving teachings. It also guides to love others so it’s not malefic per se.

But the truth is that I am worried that it is an entity. I just moved and the last time I talked to my local priest, he was brief and acted as if I was bothering him.

I would appreciate any insights on this.

Thank you so very much.

This requires discernment. I suggest that you find a good spiritual director in whom you can confide.

Make sure you pray, God’s kingdom come, God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

I saw your message and joined to answer it. You are right to be concerned. I’ll share a few things that may give you insight.

Our souls do not act as “information channels” without exposure. This occurs through mediums, channeling, divination, or occult rituals. That differs from a “word of knowledge” that the Holy Spirit provides.

If you have engaged in the practices mentioned above the legal right has been established. What this implies is your spiritual acceptance of information from demonic sources (even if you didn’t say “yes per se”) through your participation in these things. Confession is a must but that doesn’t close the door. Rapidity worsens the likelihood of other things coming to pass.

I am not suggesting you’re guilty of wrong doing but I wanted to clarify that point upfront. 🙂

What prompted me to respond is the length of time. It’s TOO long. Too long for someone who did not acknowledge the presence of a gift of discernment. If that’s the case you will receive erroneous information and factual statements. It’s a long process meant to help you decipher the differences between the two. Oftentimes other gifts accompany it and supernatural abilities may apply (i.e., sight, hearing, smell, and taste of the presence of demonic spirits through the senses).

But the caveat in that comment is this: You need to know the Word. And I’m speaking of a knowing that goes beyond common passages. You need to line up what you hear with the Word of God. If this was discernment the Holy Spirit would address you throughout. You’d begin to notice the differences between the two. The process usually brings a lot of spiritual warfare.

Discernment goes against the tools Satan uses to fool the masses. The knowledge of his presence and an ability to convey it in plain English. Discernment is often paired with a word of knowledge and word of wisdom. This is an offensive gift. You’re taking ground and destroying the enemy’s plans.

How does that align with the things you’ve heard? Revelation always has a purpose. What’s the greater goal of what you’re hearing? The Holy Spirit’s messages often have a dual purpose.

He tells us things that EFFECT us so that we may AFFECT others for God’s glory. Do you see that in the messages you’ve received? What are you supposed to do with the information?

Satan usually doesn’t begin his conversations blaspheming and revealing his hand unless you’ve had direct experiences (through vexation, disturbances, harassment, or demonization) that enable you to recognize him far easier than most. And even still, he will pretend to be otherwise until you rebuke the spirit and renounce its message. Have you done this?

Do you know your purpose? Have you discerned your vocation? Start there and be very clear about its role in the Kingdom and the territory you’re affecting. You need to know your impact for clarity. We often believe our part is small and of little consequence. But he will never cede an inch.

WOW! You remind me of the confessors St. Teresa of Avila wrote about who tormented her spiritually by their allegations that her genuine experiences were demonic! You don’t know a thing about this person and she did not reveal much, but you have probably done a lot of harm in posting what you did.

Angelina, I offer the help of St. Teresa of Avila, Doctor of the Church, who has written in Interior Castle how to discern “locutions”. This chapter may answer some of your questions. More certain also, is the teaching of St. John of the Cross, but I need to look it up before I can share it here. Link

Do not be frightened, little one, for with their help and the Holy Spirit, you may be able to rise above your concerns and doubts and sort it all out for the glory of God and the health of your soul.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences and thoughts. What I know is that what I have received has moved me closer to Christ and my love for Him has deepened.
I have only grown in love for my dear Mother Mary, God, Jesus, and my fellow human beings through what I’ve received.
I haven’t questioned it because it is always according to His message but as I always offer myself up to God, I will question what I receive once in a while as I don’t believe in blind faith in my own deeds either.
I don’t feel that special and that’s actually why I have kept it to myself because I don’t want people to see me as better or more special than them. What I hear is always beneficial for others as well and it informs my writing and how I can transform my own wounded childhood into wisdom to give God His due credit.

I have been writing and serving my fellow human beings through my God-given talent so yes I have found and inhabited my vocation 🙂

I will utter the rebuke you shared as I’m sure it cannot hurt.

Thanks again!

Wow Thank you! That is incredibly helpful! I love St. Teresa. My inspirations have offered a lot of wisdom on the soul, forgiveness, the message of Jesus. It fills me with a greater capacity to love and understand my own wounded nature and the nature of the Divine. It’s always very loving towards Jesus, Mother Mary, and God. I don’t see how any of it could be satanic but I shared below, my dedication to God is great enough that I check myself once in a while. I don’t take certainty in myself for granted – I submit it to God and once in a while I do get nervous as I did when I posted the original question.
Thanks again. Your words were comforting.

You’re welcome. I’m happy to hear the experience is drawing you near the Lord.

My responses were borne out of love and concern. I have seen and experienced much and enjoy a relationship very similar to the one you’ve shared. Hence my questions and advice.

I began with a plethora of notebooks too. I’d write until my hands were cramped! Now, we share dialogue instead and that’s always nice. It looks like I’m talking to myself. 😁

God bless your writing. It is my hope that it ministers to the ones you serve. Are you publishing articles/books or hope to do so?

Thank you! I felt the loving concerns in your words although my soul did feel a bit crushed (only sharing because it might be the symptom of something?). It was probably the ego that was hurt 😉

I wrote a book of prayers that was published last year!!

What are the symptoms/signs that the locutions are not from a holy source but a malevolent spirit in your experience?

Thanks!

I am so grateful that St. Teresa helped you. Before I look up the work of St. John of the Cross, are you familiar with his writings? Maybe I don’t need to look further, if you are already following his advice. He can be a little harder to understand than St. Teresa.
