I have recently started saying the Chaplet of St. Michael the Archangel. Does anyone know DEFINITIVELY whether the four Our Father’s in honor of Sts. Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and our Guardian Angel should be said at the beginning or the end? The printed text that came with it shows them at the end, but I have read both beginning and end on various Catholic web-sites of good reputation.

Also, aside from the “Our Father” bead and three “Hail Mary” beads for each Chior, I am confused at the general arrangement of the others. This probably coincides with the first part of my question. The Rosary does not have an exact “bead for every prayer” outside of the decades, so maybe I shouldn’t expect this Chaplet to, either, but I’m an engineer and like things in an orderly fashion. 🙂

Can anyone recommend a good summary of the life of Antonia d’Astonac or her writings?

Thanks in advance.

The prayer card that came with my chaplet, and the information I’ve found on various websites, such as EWTN: ewtn.com/library/PRAYER/MIKECHAP.TXT have the prayers to the 3 archangels and your Guardian Angel at the end of the chaplet. I usually say the opening prayer on the St. Michael medal then ‘jump’ over the beads on the pendant to where you start the prayers to the 9 choirs of angels.

…I love the chaplet, but also found the start ‘messy’ as it seems like you should use those beads on the pendant for something at the beginning of the chaplet. 😉

Take a look here: catholictelevision.org/ . This site has a link to The Legion of Saint Michael, a lay Catholic association with a strong devotion to Saint Michael. On this site you will find a ton of into about the angels, as well as more prayers and information about joining the Legion.

Well, the chaplet is a private devotion so the rules aren’t hard and fast. For example I’ve seen some versions that have three Hail Marys for each choir of angels whereas others have four. So I think if you want to say those prayers first St Michael isn’t going to be upset at all.

Jennifer, just wanted to alert you that I couldn’t get into your link to EWTN. Could you check it to make sure it is correct? 🙂

I have a question: when we receive an angel from each choir to escort us to Holy Communion, do we get nine plus our guardian angel who we already have or is he included? Please answer.

I have been saying a modified version of the Chaplet of Saint Michael for the last several months and just finished a Novena of the same last week as I was struggling with a major decision I needed to make and was looking for guidance. I say modified because rather than saying the Hail Mary’s after the intercession, I say one prayer to God the Father, one the Jesus Christ, and one to the Holy Spirit, followed by the Prayer to Saint Michael. I have also modified the opening prayers and closing prayers for my own purposes as well. Personally, I did not see the need to say Hail Mary’s in a devotion to Saint Michael as I am asking for his intercession. I also get uncomfortable with Saintly Devotions that spend more time praying to saints then they do God. But that is just me.

I purchased a 9 bead chaplet for use as a sacramental during the prayer HERE. I start with the opening prayers with my hand on the medal and move through the 9 beads for each of the 9 intercessions of the Chaplet and then back to the medal for the closing prayers.
